Wsl Cyrcs. rROCLAMATTOl. Montioello, Minn., March Stb, 1878. WoRTHT PATROKS : This day I am officially notified by the Secretary of the National Urange that the amendment reducing membership fees for men to three dollars, and for women to one dollar, has been incorporated into our organic law, and that the amendment giving states an increased number of rotes has been re jected. Saxttel E. Ap-axs, Master. I B-proclaimed by Wm. Cyrus, Master of the Oregon State Grange. ShewparaVs Cearvrt. Jesse Sheppard, the spiritual medium, gave a concert at the College last Tuesday even ing, which was attended by a very fair audi ience. As a musician, both instrumental and vocal, he is excellent, but this thing of giving the credit of his skill to the good, bad and indifferent spirits which inhabit space, is "rather thin," in fact exceedingly transpar ent, though probably it proves more remuner ative to him to charge $1.00 and give the credit of the performance to some second hand spirit, than it would to charge 50 cents and take the credit himself the money goes to him in each case. sap Creek Ackeel. The tax-payers in the school district in Benton county, just across the river from this city, held a meeting last Saturday and elected A. M. Rainwater as a Director, and re-elected John T. Lister was put in nomination for Justice of the Peace, and M. H. Wallace for Constable, both nominations being made by acclamation. Both of these gentlemen are well calculated to fulfill the duties which will devolve opon them in the event of their election, and it is our opinion that in June they will receive handsome majorities. Editor Democrat: On looking through your paiier of the 22d, I see that our old-time friends (at least some of them) are being deluded into the service of the Republican managers. Their whole work can result in nothing but a great public misfortune. They cannot elect their ticket AU they can do will be to help the Republicans elect their ticket, and I sup pose there is not a man amono them (hut 1. sires that result, at least no Democrat. They certainly should ask themselves the question, "what can we dot" They cannot at moat cast more than three hundred rotes, two thirds of which will be drawn from the Dem ocratic ranks, which will result in sending to the Legislature Mitchell Republicans, which all sensible men of honest intentions must view as a public calamity. How my old friends the Crshtmm . -t T rv. .n.i others, can be so hoodwinked is more than 1 cantelL The people here are to a man opposed to a state government. I think a constitution, no matter how perfect, will be lest on a pop ular vote. It is well knew that tha affair i a put up job by a few political aspirants. I have a sure meann of knowing what thia par of the Territory will do The Democrats, to a man will oppose a state organieation. The party, although largely in the ascendancy here, will have no candidates in the field. Yours as'ever, W. F. Alexander. P. S. We are having a fine rain, a thing much wanted here. KAIL KOAB MEKTIXC. If you will take a walk np the alley back of First street between Ferry and Washington streets, you will think your wash house was a' clean place.
