" ' ': 7 Sad Accidewt. We are informed of the accidental death of one of Linn's old and respected citizens, Mr. John Mansfield, near, tlie Harrisburg Bridge on; Thursday of last Week. He was chopping down a tree in the woods some distance from the house, when a large limb broke off and fell upon hlrii, killing him, it is supposed, Instantly. His family, wife and daughter, were from home, and the.aooident was" not kuowu until Sunday evening, when some -of the neighbors were passing through the woods and found the dead body. Smith has received a jiatent on his new dental apparatus for obtaining the correct "bite" when taking an- im pression for" false teeth. Dr. Smith enjoys the, enviable distinction of be ing its first Inventor, and we hope, wilt realize a handsome fortune out of it. But, they add, whore you find a woman pos sessing these accomplishments, she al most invariably lacks all others. When a woman has the entire house hold to care for cooking, washing, and a thousand other things all requir ing time and strength to perform, and which must be performed to keep the doniestio machine in motion when completed, if there should be a few moments of leisure, in what condition is that worn-out woman for mental culture and how Is she to make those fingers sfiilened by hard labor, trill the keys of the piano? On the other hand the wealthy find their hired help very Inefficient. This is one deplorable fact realised most fully by all Oreaon house-keepers who find it necessary to employ help. - ' - , The mistress of the house must exor cise a constant watchfulness in order to secure the performance of any work, say nothing of its being done in a proper mauner; and although spared some of the rougher and more labo rious work, tlie anxiety and worry wear 011 her almost as much as the actual labor, so her advantage over the wo- men who perforins her own work Is very slight. These are only a few disadvantages under which our women labor.
