In fact it is the best broom we ever saw which may be regarded as a sweeping assertion. Distressing lt IIealthpll. Several of our physicians are complaining of the "dis tressingly healthful" state of the people of this vicinage at the present time. Our apoth ecaries don't sell a box of pills or an emetic once a week, and some of our most eminent and skillful disciples of Esculapeus bav'nt been called from their warm coaches for the past fortnight. Caval.- Last Thursday night, at the ad journed meeting of the Santiam Canalers and Ditchers, in this city, articles of incor poration were reported, adopted and signed and were subsequently filed in the proper offices. The survey of the Canal course will shortly be made, ar d other steps will be ta ken necessary forthe successful prosecution of this-important enterprise. Not Mabuied. Wc are authoritatively authorized to deny the report of the mar- riage-of Mr. Wm. lland, of tho Dalles City Mountaineer, which was said to have occur red at San Francisco recently. Our inform ant asserts that Mr. Hand is still in the At lantio States, wbith sr he went on a visit sev eral months ago, and that it is evidently some other Hand who has been joined at the . hymenial altar in the Bay City. We take pleasure in correcting this before the San Francisco bride hears the other report, else the might imagine she bad been imposed upon and got the left instead of the right Hand. But of coarse she has the right Hand, and not tho left Hand, for the left Hand is left for some one else,-.. who,., when bhe gets the left Ha ul, will have the right Hand and not the left Hand. Poor Hand I We presume he will feel terribly lacerated when he comes back and finds that it is all a mistake about him being married after all, and that it is another Hand that is nestling in tho bosoni of the California bride Scio. Wo learn from Deputy Sheriff John Claypool, who has just returned from Scio, that tho Scio Artr will issuo some time next week. Will Remove. Wo are credibly inform ed that llon.'J. Q. Thornton will shortly re move to Portland, for tho purpose of prao- ticinj law in that eltr. Too Late. Just as we go to press we are in receipt of resolutions of condolence adopt ed by Harrisburg Lodge, A. .F. & A. M., which will appear next week. A Beast ok Prev. Ono day last week Mr. John Miller, living in Benton county fivo or six miles from this city, caught in a trap a monster wolf which stoixl 3 feet high and measured 0 feet from tho tip of its noso to the end of its tail. It is estimated that this beast has killed over two hundred dol Ian worth of stack in that neighborhood within tho past few weeks. I -H.l. I HtH ...IiM.,i m Tub Final Su rvey. The Burrngo party has completed the final location of tho Rail road lino to a point of intersection with tho Brooks line in Haekletnan'o pasture. The place where the latter lino crosses tho Town ship line between tho College and Thomas Montcith'a 'dwelling is made the initia point for tho survey south. Tho party start ed South yesterday with the survey upon the Iovnshp line. The curve is not yet sur veyed, and hence, the precise location of tho depot is not known. One county in Iowa has a lady School Superintendent who makes the circuit of the schools in her countv and rive tho little children candy and the big boys kisses when they show great progress in their studies. In the same county there is a young la ly Notary Public whom her county paper call ".the most benutiful and largely patronized of any of the Notaries in the State I" There is a big fat girl in the same precinct with tho "female Notary" who is a Candidate for the next Justice of the Peace. Another Biuamist. About three years ago a man named Joseph Bruce came to thi county fruln tho States, and shortly after his arrival became acquainted with a young widow in the Forks of the Saatiam and mar ried her, representing t her that ho wm a widower. A few months ngoBruce's broth er arrived here from tho East and informed Mrs. B.-uco that her husband was deceiving her and that he had a wife and five children in one of the Eastern States, She immediately wrote to the States, nd in du time received a letter from Mrs. Bruce No. 1, confirmatory of all that the brother had told her; and, after communicating her knowl edge to her deceiver and unmasking his vil lainy, she commanded him t. leave her im mediately, which he did. after aelling every thing she had, and leaving her destitute.
