Oregon'Central Railroad. -Messrs.
Iewis and Kandall, the Engineers en-
s gaged ia locating the above road, return
ed to this city by Thursday evening's boat
from the Willamette. They have located
jthe first sixty miles of the road from Port
land, which takes the line to the "Holmes'
0ap" in Polk County, and being really
the shortest line between this citv and
the center of that rich agricultural region,

the purchase of the Island of St. Thomas

people of the island, whose consent is
made a condition precedent to the accep-
tance of Hr. Seward's offer of 87,000,000
