Fot Eccene. On last Tuesday morning the "American Division" of the Dutch town Brass Band, comprising eighteen instru ments, passed through this city, en route for Eugene, where their services were engaged forstle celebration on the Fourth. They treated our citizens to several beautiful airs, after which Henry Myers treated them tQ "awi glass lager" all around, which they seemed to think was "similech goot yaxcl". The Ball given by the Albany Brass Band cn the evening of the Fourth, in Rar. rlsh's Hall, was a grand success, and was an SLpreenWc finale to the day's pleasures and enjoyments. About fifty couple of ''fair women and brave men" were in attendance, and the best of feeling and harmony preyail ed throughout the evening. Ayer & Co. have planted fields of it, where they raise many tons at a crop. Jt is grown like the carrot or beet, in drills, and its quality or properties have been much im proved by cultivation. It id .one of the in gredients in Arse's Sausapikilla, and, we are informed, the extraordinary virtues of . this preparation are largely duo to the ex tract of this root that it contains. The Sar- --r ' ; eaparilla root, used by this firm, is groivn on plantations of their own, in Honduras, to secure an article of superior and wholly re- name qcaitiy. une oi uie reasons ior tne universally acknowledged superiority of their medicines, may be sees in the watchful care that is used in preparing item.
