i'he Democracv has not reduced j
taxes one mill, and hence their boasting is
i
j vain. The people do not want to cover
money into the Treasury which ought to
! be expended upon the public works. What
they want is ihat the taxes be lessened.
This the Democracy has not done.
Another batch tit bonds amounting to
ten million of dollars will be issued in a
few days, thus showing the three hundred j
million loan of the i:, per cent, bonds is
last being disposed of. This establishes
beyond cavil the soundness of our National
credit, and silences forever all that loud
mouthed insolence of the Democracy about
Republican rule and ruin. In 1850 Howell
Cobb. I5iicham;a's Secretary of the Treas
ury, tried bis hand with a five million loan
at 12 per cent., and failed.
Secretary Morrill places on the market a
three hundred million loan at i1 percent,
and it is taken. Now it will be seen that
the management of our financial a flairs

j placed the credit of the nation on a solid
