Steph en Hit at Sixth Street ESCAPE DEATH BY MARGIN Red Car Pilot Hits Auto Dead Center Train No. 103, Southern Pacific, Red Car service, due at Hilb.boro at 4:49 p. m. struck a Vetie car driven by A. L. Stephens, of above Hanks, Friday, at Sixth and Baseline street. Stephens and hit wife were driving west and the train was on Sixth, running south. Stephens undertook to crost in front of the moving train and the pilot of the car caught the Velie amidships, throwing Mrs. Stephens into the rear seat, but not injuring her perceptibly. Stephens was rendered uncon scious for a few minutes. He shs tained a scalp wound and his back was wrenched, but not seriously. Dr. F.. H. Smith has charge of Mr. Stephens, and in an hour or so he was resting easy at the Smith hospital. Mrs. Stephens was badly shocked by the accident and it was several hours before she became calm. The car w as struck almost dead center, and the seat in which the driver sits was torn from lis moorings. The wheels, motor and transmission were uninjured Mrs. Stephens was able to pro ceed home Saturday morning.
