JOHN SWALLEY John Swalley, well known ati Reedville. died at the home ot Di daughter, Mrs. Allre4 AlUiar, in Oregon City, January 15, after an illness of but a few days. He was born tu Allen County, Ohio, Jan. 10, I860, and when in his teens enlisted in Company D., Indiana Infantry, 152nd Reg., and served during the wat. He was married to Miss Eva Lofland, in Nebraska, in 1693, and they came to Oregon in 1901, settling at Reedville, where he lived until about a year ago. Ihe wife died in 1915, and a son, Glen, died in 1018. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Benton, of Portland, and Mrs. tisseue Mil lar, wife of Alfred Millar, of Ore gon City, and two grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Loretta Keeler, re sides in Nebraska. Mr. Swalley was a member of the G. A. R. Post, at St. Johns, and was well known to all the veterans of this section. The funeral took place Monday from the Uonelson & Bell Under taking parlors, and interment was in the Hillsboro cemetery. Mr. Swalley was a man of hne character and made many friends during his residence at Reedville. H0LSTE1N NEWS The Washington County Holstein Breeders Club u offering to dai rymen of Washington County six registered HoUtein bull calves in exchauge for scrub or grade bulls subject to the following condi tions: Any dairy farmer who now has only a scrub or a grade sire head ing his dairy herd may trade such a scrub or' grade "even up" for one of the registered HoUtein calves offered by the HoUtein Club. The only conditions are that the scrub or grade shall have been at the head of the dairy herd wishing to trade for the pure bred bull, and that the re reiver of the registered Holstein bull calf agrees to use a register ed HoUtein bull for a period of not less than two years from the time such trade is made.
