' Whether this is due to weather conditions entirely, or to the vro practices of this county, it is dit ficult to sav. Experts, however at the United States Entomologi cal Station of Forest 15 rove, Mate that the midge has not made its appearance, and that there is lit tie likelihood of its showing up this season. Should the insect at tack the clover, it will be much later than in previous years, and farmers will be able to make a much of a hay crop as thev desire. In previous years where clover seed crop was desires, it was nec essary to clip the clover about the first of June to avoid the midge attack, but present reports would indicate that the hay crop may be allowed to go until the latter pari of June, and unless more of the insects show up before that time, the hay may be allowed to go even longer if necessary. Couu ty Agent. HOLSTEIN PICNIC Washington County Holstein Breeders will hold a basket picnic at the farm of W. Martin, of For est Grove, on June 10. They will not only have a real get-together, but are also planning some judg ing contests, and are offering prizes for a boys' and girls' judg ing contest. Interesting speaker are also on their program the principal of whom will be Henry McCall. of Prineville, President of the State Holstein Association: Prof. E. B. Fitts, of Corvallis, ami S. B. Hall, of Ciresham, Secretary of the State Holstein Association Frank Connell, President of the Washington County Assn., invites all the Holstein Breeders of the county and their friends, and has also invited the Multnomah Coun ty Assn. The Oregon Guernsey breeders' association will ship from New York 70 Guernsey cattle, which are said to be the finest stock imported from the Isle ef Guernsey. Professor E. L. Westover of the college drfiry department left Thursday for New York and will supervise the shipment to Portland. The Guernseys will be distri buted to members of the Guern sey Breeders' association in Clat sop, Tillamook, Washington. Clackamas, Polk and Coos coun ties as soon as Professor West over returns with the shipment. This is the first time that the associations of Oregon have at tempted to import stock to such a degree, several individual ship ments have been made before, however. SCHOOL NEWS Eighth Grade examinations will be held June 10 and 11. Pupils who were conditioned in previous examinations may write again on the subjects in which they have low standings. Those who failed may take the whole examination over. Those wishing to take advan tage of this opportunity should see that their teachers or the school board notify the Coun ty Superintendent to' whom they wish the questions sent. R., Relief Corps, and veterans of the Spanish and World Wars vis ited the cemetery in tht forenoon nnd decorated the gravs of those who have passed before. In the afternoon the services were held in the Methodist Episcopal Church, Hon. H. V. Gates being the principal speaker.
