of friends and neighUrs attended
the oksequies. He is survived

two brothers, in the Fast, sur
vive of his immediate family.

John Parsons, of Centerville,
was in the city yesterday. He
recently returned . from a two
months stay in England, where
he had not visited his relatives
for 27 yetirs. Mr. Parsons says
that thi roads there in the rural
districts are simply line, nnd that
Ihcv are not using macadam.
Thev use an asphalt or tarlike
cover, and Mr. Parsons says it
makes even line walking,

vocate in the Hillsboro Grange,
which recently passed the follow
ing resolution

Grange, No. 73, Patrons of Hus
bandry:
That inasmuch as our esteemed
governor is meeting with sharp
criticism because of his recent ac
tions in upholding and sustaining
the dignity of the laws of the
State of Oregon;
We deem it our duty to encou
rage and commend him for bin
noble service.

JACOB STAHLE
Jacob Stahle, for over 13 years
a resident of the Helvetia section
died at the family home, Friday,
reb. 13, 1914. after an extended
illness. He was born in Canton
Zurich, Switzerland, Dec. 4, 1843
and came to America when a
young man. He came to Oregon
in 18S0, and settled in Helvetia
in 1890. He was married to
Madeline Linder, in Portland,
July 5, 1892. The widow and
the following children, all at
home, survive: Emma, Louise,
Henry, Irene, and Llsie.
The funeral took place, Mon
day afternoon, at Helvetia, and
interment was in the local ceme
tery there.
Mr. Stahle was sober, indus
trious,- and a kind husband and
father.

land, arrived here Tuesday eve
ning, and is a guest of his cousin,
Rev. rather Lappen, of St Mat
thews' Church. The visitor has
just graduated from the National
University, at Dublin, and wants
to take in the West before set

been confined to his room for
several days, and many of his
friends have been calling on him.
Mr. and Mrs. Simpson thank

Ernest Kroner, the architect
for the Carnegie library building,
was in the city yesterday. He
states that in all probability the
plans have now been passed up
on by the Carnegie Corporation,
and are on the way back to Ore
gon. Building will begin some
time. this year, but the exact date
can not be determined.
There will be a basket social
given at the McKinley school
house, Dist No. 81, Saturday
evening, Feb. 28. Ladies are re

Frank Miller was arrested the
last of the week for attempting
to beat Mrs. Bow beer out of a
board bill. He was released on
$100 bail, and has since settled
the account He alleges that he
had no intention of defaulting
the bill.
Martin Schultz, of Buxton,
was convicted of using obscene
language to a Buxton young lady.
