It is a pretty safe propo rtion that no one outside of Ore- yro contributed to the expenses of "iKv" Harry Lane. Gov. West has commenced cut- tint! down expenses at the state penitentiary, and bis first move was to let Supt. James out As a matter of fact. West says that the appropriation is not suf ficient. and he w ill keep expenses down to the legislative limit. After all that man West aiH'ars to be smewhat of a business man. No matter what the olitical forces in the republican party may decide, it becomes more and more apparent every day that the rank and file of republicans all over the United States have an abiding faith that the ex-president is the only man who stands any show of election against a democrat this Fall. Champ Clark appears to have the democratic nomination well in band, and from all indications it would not Ik surprising if the contestants would be Roosevelt and the Missourian. Somelxxly's "dawg" is sure going to le "kicked around" if these two militants get into the Jnilitical arena. Geo. Mazzei. of Milwaukee, O.e.. was in town today, fixing up some tax matters on bis I'ea verton property.
