MONDU T. talker kt4 Mr, lirifltik Umt 2. and ruk Hoasc Added to the confession of lies. M. Humphry, murdcrvr. is the signed admission of Ohas. T. Humphry, telling how he and his brother killed Mrs. Grith'h. in June, at Philomath. Chas re mained homo when lleo. was ar rested, and IVputy District At torney Tongue issued a warrant for him. Saturday night, in order to see if he was not an accomplice in the horrible crime. Charles, aged 32 years, told a connected storv. detailing how he and his brother went to the tirithth home at night and Chas. grasped the woman from the rvar, w hile tieo. caught her in front, tvmg her hands with a halter npe picked up at the GritTith kirn. Her arms were pinioned to her side, and a horrible orgy followed by the woman's tormentors. She was then strangled by (reo.. who used his twre hands, being aided by Charles, who held her while the strangulation was being effected. They left her dead in the room, and then went upstairs, where they robbed the purse of the dead woman of $35, Chas. getting but ten dollars for his booty. C has. sweares they then came down stairs and again at tacked the body of the woman. who had been dead for many minutes. She was carried to the iond, quite a distance from the house, the younger brother carrying her feet, going in the lead, while the elder carried the woman by her hands. She was heavy, and the two rested once during the trip. She was thrown into the water, as detailed by George, in his confession. Chas. Humphrys stoutly alleges that the motive was not robUry, but was due to perversion. Ihe strange thing about the alTair is the fact that Geo. Hum phrys. beastly as he is. had enough manhood to try to shield his brother. Deputy District Attorney T. H. Tongue succeed ed in getting a binding, legal conression irom the younger brother, and it clinches the el der's admissions to a niecty, so that both will be charged with murder in the first degree. Poth are now at Corvallls, and the sheritT will see that they cannot confer together. The details of the crime are the most revolting ever related before an officer of the court, and the two cannot be classed as human beings. Chas. Humphrys was taken to Corvallis yesterday morning by Sher'tr Hancock. Tuesday night he detailed to the Argus reiMirter the story of his brother George killing li. W. S'lby. near Dallas in the Fall of l'JOS. He said the Humphrys family had gone to Yoncalla to live, atd that George (warded the train one day and went to Dallas via Corvallis and Independence, and from Dallas walked to the Selby ranch, where the bachelor lived alone, and was invited tostay all night. George accepted, but before mid night killed his host with a Mar lin rifle, owned by the victim, then robbed the house of $.j0, set fire to the building, watched it burn down, and went back to Yoncalla, where he told Charles about the trip. George had been absent two days and one night. George, at Corvallis, denies kill ing Selby, and says he was at Yoncalla the night Selby's house burned. Both brothers are igno rant and they appear to have not even a low order of cunning, and their recitals are almost unbelievable. Chas. T. Humphreys, who Moud.iv night confessed to helping his brother murder Mrs. (Jritiiths. His brother, George, is just such a lookiug. nun, only of larger frame.
