Price, of North Hillsboro. was in town the last of the week. He will have a sale on Septem ber 23. pettinjr equipment ready for the manual iramin ueuanmeni in i iti.-t me tnjin cenooi. South Tualatin, was in the city, Monday, and says that the local demand for lumber has been jrood throughout the bummer. The Oreeonian is editorially giving Hillsboro a great deal of beneficial notice these days, for all 01 which the people are duly thankful. Road makincr hns nirm'n hpn resumed on the VVoolley Bridge road, between the two hrirkrps northwest of town, and the new unloadintr d ace is about as hanHv as a pocket in a shirt. Van B. DeLashmutt. the Sdo- kane boomer, was in the city the first of the week, and is spending a tew days at his Witch Hazel ranch, and in Port and. Van says Hillsboro is going ahead in great shape and he predicts double the population inside of three years. Cashier Mahon. of the Shute Savings, A. C. Shute and E. L. Crawford nf npar T.anrpl was in town yesterday, and started harvesting his eight acres of prunes. Tuesday morning. Loomis, of Forest Grove, was in town Monday, on business at the sheriff's office. Mr. Loom is has a 960 acre wheat ranch up near Wasco, Sherman County, and has four boys running the place. He states that the Sher man county yield was an average of about 9 bushels to the acre. This is a poor crop, however, as the warm winds injured filling. People in a position to know aver that the coroner's jury which returned a verdict on the P. R. & N. fatality, above Camp 6i last week, did Conductor Da vies an injustice. Railroad men say that the accident was due to a peculiar chain of circnmsbiripes that happens very seldom, and that the conductor did all he could to avert the tragedy. xAs far as the blocking is concerned, any old railroad man will tell vou that if a car once starts on a grade that the blocking would not last much longer than a furnace. Hillsboro has no sr.rppr. fair this Fall for the first time in several years. Next year there win be a bigger-than-ever ex hibit, owinff to the fact that there can be none held this venr because of the condition of the streets. One miem have heen held in the court yard, but it would have been strenuous tn enter and leave with any degree 01 comfort. Next Spring the boys will get together and or ganize earlv. and we will have something that can be eclipsed only by the Pendleton Roundup. Attorney C. J.
