North Plains is center of a rich
fanning district, and itscloseness
to Portland is attracting Port
land sulmrhaiiites, as well as
people who are looking for an in
vestment. The rails w ill soon he
laid through the new city, and
Mas Urotliers are to start a two
story brick block and occupy it
in the early Summer. Other
business houses are to be started
in the near future, and already
many business lots as well as
residence property have been ,
sold. The newly laid out city is
to have electric lights and a wa-l
ter system that will he adequate
for all demands, and mountain
water will later succeed the deep
well system which is to he put in '
operation.
Manv wise ones, who have an
eye for location, do not hesitate j
to say that North Plains is com-1
in;r city, and they are putting j
their money, as well as faith,'
into the property. i

1 llanrahan, of Portland, are the
selling agents at Hillshoro, and
they have already made a num
ber of transfers. They say the
new city is to have sidewalks and
all the modern conveniences, and
when things move the street
are to. bo macadamized. Messrs.1
Thompson & llanrahan are stop
ping at the Commercial Hotel. '
John A. Jeffrey . who defended
Koselair, has all kinds of trouble
these days. His wife has ans-
wercu ms divorce case, urougnt
some months ajro by the hand
some attorney, and denies that
she did the deserting. She says,

she asks the court for $25 pr j

ried in Salem in November, 1898, !
and Mrs. Jelf reys says that h4

title to some books and furniture
and to some real estate that he

sumably the Koselair tract, on
which he held a deed subject to
the Hitter mortgage.
Sam Paisley, of Puxton, and
L. L. Crawford, of Crawford,
were in the city Monday, return
ing Tuesday. They were drawn
on the jury.
Corwin Foote, of near Center
ville, was in town Tuesday, mix
ing with the rain.
Keinhald Herr was down from
Seehers, Tuesday.
