proposal that they come here,
but it was voted dwon. The
drum corps of Portland was at
the meeting and furnished mar
tial music throughout. The old
boys and the Woman's auxilary
had a splendid day, and the pro
gram w a all that could be w ish
ed. Cornelius furnished a boun
tiful spread for the visitors, and
their entertainment was charac
teristic of the way that Corneli
us always does things.
County Surveyor A. A. Morrill
is having the field notes of the
United States surveys for Wash
ington County written up for his
office records, and it will take
several weeks to complete the
work. Miss Grace Deichman is
transcribing them at the general
land office in Portland. They
w ill then be placed on the lx:ok
records of the office herein Hills
horo. As the matter now stands
there is no record of any survey
here since 1876, and as the gov
ernment corners afford the start
ing place for many surveys the
notes are very essential.
A. A. Asbahr, attending 0. A.
C. at Corvallis, is one of the
negative speakers at the meeting
between O. A. C. and Washing
ton State College, which takes
place tonight The subject under
discussion in the debate in which
young Asbahr has" the negative
is "Resolved That the U. S.
should adoDt a rjoliev of shin sub
sidy." The student is a son of
Julius Asbahr, of South Tualatin.
Fred Muhly, of near Blooming,
was in town Tuesday. He states
that the nrune cron will not. lie
up to within 50 per cent of the
usual crop trom present indica
tions, in his section, and says
that the pear crop also wi be
light. Mr. Muhly turns out a
nne prune trom his orchard
Oscar Brenman, plumber for

months, departed Monday for
Klamath Falls, where he has
been offered a position with H.
V. Gates, on the water and light
system at that place. He may
move his family there in the near
future.
