F. B Clark, of near Farmington,
was in town Monday; He expects
to go to Nebraska, after the elec
tion, for a couple of months, where

has been visiting in Frauklin coun
ty, Neb , for some time, will return
home this week.
Hillsboro is not having a boom,
but a good steady growth, far great
er than it ever before experienced.
The new houses are all substantial,
and in many cases modern dwell
ings. There is a good demand for
lots, and in some parts of the city,
good building lots are scarce. It iB
said that several new additions
will be laid out next Spring.
While at the slaughter house,
laet Saturday morning, Ed. Moore,
of the firm of Moore & Greear,
dropped a butcher knife into a
buoket of water. Haetily reaohing
down to recover the knife, hie left
hand nncoiintered the ooint of the
instrument, which penetrated the
palm, cutting an ugly gash, an
inch and half long. Dr. F. A.
Bailey sewed up the wound.

John Johns, the man arrested by
Sheriff Hancock, last week, on bus

for R. H. Love, of near Shattuck,
all summer, and Love came up

The Portland Country Club &
Livestock Association, which held
such a successful fair this year, will
become a strong association. It
raised $10,000, last week, to pay off
indebtedness, and the directors
elected Hon. W. H. Wehrung, of
this county, as manager of the fair,
hia duties beginning at occe. Mr.
Wehrung was Preeident ot the
State Fair for 4 years, and it was
largely due to hia management
that that institution waa placed on
a secure financial footing.
Mr. Wehrung is President of the
Alaeka-Yukon Fair Commission of
this state, and seems to have a
natural adaptation for that sort of
work. He is a native eon of Wash
ington county, and is possessed of
much executive ability, which is
what counts in the position to
which be ha just been elected.
