THE BRADLEVS A BAD LOT
Patrolman J. H Gittings, of Port
land, was killed in a pistol duel at
Albina, yeeterday evening. Git
tings bad been called to arrest
MellvilleG Bradley, of the latter
place, for beating his wife, when
Bradley shot the policeman and
made bia escape. Bradley ia a
blackemitb, and worked in the car

ous of Gittings, and the murder Was
a culmination of the matter. This
tragedy calls to mind a drama io
which Bradley and his wife played
last July ia Washington county.
Mrs. Kate Bradley and a man
named VY. T. Anderson ran a res
taurant at tho Grove, for a while
laat summer, where they paeeed a?
mam and wife. Bradley, the wo
man'a husband, met Anderson on
the train between Portland and the
Grove, and engaged in a fight with
him. Bradley then stopped off at
Hilleboro, and a wore out a warrant
for the arreet of the twain. When
Deputy Sheriff Kane arrived at the
Grove, he found that Anderson and
the Bradley woman had taken a
livery team and gone. He later
found them occupying the same
room at a hotel in Banks, and ar
rested them. They were tried in

One of the divorces granted by
Judge McBride, this place, last
Monday, and which was attempted
to be keot seoret. bv the nartiea in.
tereeUd, was that of Calvin Heilig,
one or the proprietors of the Heilig
