Dra. Lioklater, F. A. Bailey, and
W. D. Wood. They agree that the
boy ia mentally unbalanced, yet
eaon mints mat ne in some way
knew right Irom wrong, and that
be knew, when he committed this
deed, it was wrong. Dr. Linklater
thinks that tbe boy is of about two
thirds' wit; Dr. Bailey thinks the
boy knew be was committing 1
wrong, but ia mentally irresponsi

fendants responsibility is about
6 ve yeara behind his age equalling

Since being retained in this case I
have kept away from tbe boy, aa
tbe sberin and bia deputy will

concluded therefore, in lieu of the

Diatnot Attorney Allen then ad
dressed the following remarks to
tbe Court:
"Your Honor, I have given this case

After reading the aworn reports of Doc

will beat be aubaerved by receiving a
Slea of guilty of murder in the second

in the plea now to be entered."
At tbis juncture Sydney Brugger,
prompted by his attorney, stood up
and pleaded guilty. The Court
asked Mr. Huston if he waived the
age consideration, and granted the
authority, without question, to
receive the plea and pass sentence,
and upon being answered in the
affirmative, the Court then passed

MARY NORTHRUP CAMPBELL
Mrs. Mary Northrup Campbell
died at The Dalles tbe past week
A year ago MrB. Campbell wrote
her autobiography, which follows:
"I, Mary X. Campbell, nee Mary Ann
Northrop, was born in Tiilatnook coun
ty, Oregon, June 9, 1868, being the
daughter of Harvey and Sarah Northrup.
Grandparents on both sides and father
were emigrants of 1845. At the age of 4
years, in the year 1873, I moved with my
parents to Glencoe, Washington county,
Oregon, where I received my early train
ing in the Shady Brook country "school.
In the fall of 1884 I attended school in
Hillsboro, Oregon, remaining there until
June 1885. Then I spent two vears in
the Portland public and high schools. In
the fall of 1887 I began teaching in the
public schools of Washington countv.
and with the exception of one year spent
at the Oregon State Normal, I have
taught almost continuously in the oublic
schools of Oregon, considering this one
of the greatest opportunities to do good
and impress righteous principles iu the
hearts of the youth.
"I was married to W. A. Burt f'arnn-
bell on December 23, 1897, and six
months later moved to The Dulles, where
1 nave resided ever since. On November
13, 1808, a son named Loval Bonhenr. .
blessed our union, and stayed with us but
three short months, dying Feburary 4,
1890. I ioined the United Brethren
church at the age of 15 and have ever
since sought to lead an earnest Christian
lite."
