E. Melville Walker, who, under tbe
natructon of Record, went to Lon-
on to float bonds for the original
Port laud, Nehalem fc Tillamook
Railroad Company, alleges that be
has the money subscribed bj a de
benture company, in England, and
that the money is ready to deliver
as rapidly as ten mile sections of
the road are completed. He
charges that Record's failors was
premeditated, and that it is tbe
work of the Southern Pacific. He
also says he can and will force tbe
stockholders of tbe old company,
which has transferred its rights to
K. E Lytle, to go ahead and build
tbe line.
No one seems to know whether
or not Walker can do these tbiogs,
but it is koowo that be cabled,
weeks ago, that he had made sale
of the bonds, and money delivery
waa ready as soon as the first ten
miles of track was laid. It ia also
nown that' he put in a claim for
over idU.UUO commission. If Mr
Walker can force them to build,
and the money will be ready, no
one would care how soon be cracks

Railroad officials say that they
are relieving the car shortage just
as promptly as possible, and tbey
further say that this shortage mut
endure, because it is not business
policy lo put on thousands of dol
lars in rolling stock, just to move

essarily heavy, because farmers
generally want to ship all at about

officials find out who did the act of
vandalism there will be something
