This will mean that Portland ia to have two tele phone coiiipuniaa but it meana more than that for Washington county people, many of whom have independent telephone instruments. Particularly is this so in north Wellington County, and in that district south of the Tualatin river, hading as far down as Tualatin, Tigardville, and even aa tar beyond Laurel aa Newlterg. These inalru nieuta run into tbe several bun dnd mark, and, aa yet, they are without Portland connection. When the Automatic is estab lished in Portland tbe next thing will be connection with all the in dependent lines, and thua Waib ington County will have two tele phone systems reaching into the Portland business distriol. There are three independent lines in the countythe Hughes' line, reaching nut of Forest (J rove; ihe OUen W'ilke.' Roe, Hillsboro, meeting the Hughes line at Cor nelius and running to Cedar Mill; and the Bcholls line.
