the Oregon Development League,
at Portland, August 2 and S. Out
of there thirty gentlemen there
should he no absent delegate.
Washington county stands in a po
sition to be better benefitted by
any state improvement or develop
ment than any other county in the
state. Situated close to Portland,
with one-half of our population
able to reach the metropolis in a
two hours' drive, it is of much im
portance that we place ourselves in
a position ts receive benefit from
organized effort. Let all the dele
gates attend this important meet
ing. It is high Urns tor Washing
ton county to scrape the moss off
its back and barnacles off the bot
tom of its public spirit.
Judge Rood Appoints
In pursuance of a call for a meeting of del
egates from the various parts of Oregon, to
be held at Portland. Ore., on August 2 and
3, for the purpose of forming the Oregon
Development League, 1 hereby appoint,

The Argus again calls the atten
tion of the Hillsboro business men
to the need of a public park for
public use. Never again will the
town be able to bay a grove at so
low a price as at present. The
town has no place for open air ex
ercbes except the court house yard,
and this is very .unsatisfactory
We need a grove, close to town, for
public service and for celebrations.
The Sewell grove, southeast of
town, is an ideal location, and this
appears to be the only place that
can be procured. It is up to the
business men tf make a move to
ward the acquisition of this place.
The owner, James H. Sewell, ap
pears disposed to permit the city
to have this tract, which is amply
large for the purpose, at a very
reasonable figure Let the busi
ness men get together, raise a part
of the money, and the city the bal
ance, and the we shall have i
park and grounds, which in five
years will be a credit to a town of
ten thousand people. Remember,

children and your children's chil
dren. Who will be the first to take
