Aa a matter of fact, this ia humiliating ti students. the country districts, which contain a majority of the atudents, those who took the examination were generally successful, but this easily explained when one find out that only a very, very small per cent, take the finals in the country diatricta. It begins to look as though tbere is a radical wrong somewhere in the course of study prescribed by the slate board. Par ents who take murh pains with their children in school matters, and who strive hard to educate them up to an average standard, must feel out 01 sympathy with the system of averages which means failure for so large a per cent, of the scholarship in the advanced grade. But, so long as the school book publishers get their hand in or ' nana oat," and so long as those at the head of the state school system are satisfied, it is suspected that the voters are to tike no no tice of the condition of tchool af fairs. It looks as though there is a studied attempt to raise citizens ithout mental independence. Of one thing there is certainty either the school system is crowd ed, or else the questions prepared are altogether out of sympathy ith the coarse taught.
