The iron works, including macbinerv, cost $750,000, but at present are not worth half that, and to put the furnace in operation again would require an expenditure of $200,000. The hot oven is a wieck, the stack out of date, the air compressor being about all the niachiuery that could he utilized to ad vantage. It is doubtful if tbe woikt will be run again as a smelting plant. but the pnrchaee of the property may be with a view of puttiUin a shin- building nlant. luuaing piant. Dr. II . C. Willison. one of the C. Willison, one of the San : stockholder, who returned from Francisco a few days ago, when about the sale of the property, said be nad not belore beard of the deal being ctoeed, but admitted that agents were negotiating for the works. He also said one of the men representing Mr. Hill passed through Seattle, August 24, on his way to San Francisco, and the deal might have been consuuim ated September 1 as reported. Some of the finest water frontage on fort Townsend bay lies at Irondale. It is securely sheltered fiom all storms, and the water is of a depth of from eight fathoms at the shore to 3 J fathoms in the centei of tbe bay. The place lies about seven miles op the bay iroin this city. VAN AND. PROPERTY SOLD. Attorney Baanon Mow Haa Practical Control of It. Baker City, Or., Sept. 10. Attorney 1 J. Bannon, formerly of Portland, now as practical control of the A'an Anda property on Olive creek, At the execution sale, beld in Canyon City, be bid in the property for $700 iu the interest of the judgment creditois. As only four of tbe six claims constitut ing tbe Van Anda group were levied upon, the deficit of judgment, amount ing to $400 will have to be met by the sale of the remaining two claims. William Turner, one of the original owners of tbe Van Anda, haa hopes of raising tbe money necessary to redeem the property before the time of redemp tion expires. It is also understood he will take up tbe building improve ments, which were some time ago sold as personal property on execution. This mine at one time ranked as a val uable property, and this it may be yet. About $1,300 worth of development work has been done and about $1,000 has been spent on buildings. The mine is located on Quebec mountain, and is surrounded by a number of other psomising properties. ' DREDGING THE GOLD. Big Operations on the fraser River In British Co In nib la. Kamloops, B. C, Sept. 10. The big gold dredge on the Fraser river near Lytton, B C, has been in operation for tbe past month aud tbe owner is more than satisfied with the results attained. The dredge is in operation every hour of the 24, tbe men working three shifts. Every 24 hours 1,500 cubio yards of gravel is taken from the bottom of tbe stream and passed over the treating tables. This may not ap pear to be a large amount at first sight, but when it is understood that this means in tbe neighborhood of 2,000 tons dead weight, and that during the day over 10,000 tons ol water are used in tbe washing process, it will be evi dent to anyone tbe workings of the dredge is an undertaikng of great mag nitude. Big Sal of Mining Stock. Portland, Bept. 10. The stock of the Musick Mining ft Milling Com pany, one of the best-known properties in the Bohemia district, was placed on sale at the Oregon Mining Exchange and 123,450 shares were sold during the first call, at 10 cents ner share. Wallace, Idaho, , Sept. 10-Tbe Standard Mining Company is putting in a new air compressor and electric plant at the mine. The foundation is completed and some o f the machinery is on the ground. The new compreseor will have a capacity of 60 drills, the present being only of 15 drills. In putting it in the company is looking far into the future. The 15-diill com pressor is nearly large enough at pres ent, and the company does not desire to work over 20 drills if they had ever so much power, bnt to put In snc.h a compressor would only mean the addi tion of still another new plant a'nioat before this one would be running, so it was decide.) while the change was being made to get a machine that would be large enough to do tbe work for years to come. STEVENS PEAK PROPERTY Bonded for 040,000 and Development Work Begins at Once, Wallace, Idaho, Sept. 10. A deal baa been made by which William Williams and John W. Pergiase, of Milwaukee, undertake to develop the Wonderful group on Stevens peak, se curing a working bond from the own ra for $40,000. This is the group on which 18 feet of galena was struck a ew weeks ago, when gronnd slnicinu limiting for the location of the ledge where it crossed a creek. Since then ore has also been found in another lo cation. .The group includes three claims, the Wonderful, Oro Fino and Aguinaldo. To Develop the Whit Cross, Moscow, Idaho, Sept. 10. An offer is said to have been made by a Spokane man to drive b li feet of tunnel and shaft on the White Cross for a half in terest in the property.
