But when we have a party in pow er which conceives British policies to be our policies; when we have an administration which wants us to 'pursue a policy of empire that means stultificatian of the lst thought and aspirations of our country, then, and rijrM then, we have a right to hold before our citi zens the light that is luring ns to ruin. When we know that Brit ish financiers dictate our monetary policy; when we know that our ad ministration is guided by British hopet and British dictation, then, and right then, it is time for every American to remember that in the fruition of British policies in Am erican civic life, lay the death and burial of American institutions; the tomb of liberty, of popular gov ernment and the right of every man, by his ballot, to make him self a sovereign part of our country and its administration. It is for this reason that every American should study well the trend of the times and be prepared to cast a ballot for that American-' ism which was the gift of our pa triarchal fathers that boon of lib erty which has made our country a resting place for the oppressed of every clime. We want . an administration ' which will not be dependent on the preferences of British nobility; we waat an administration which will not cry out for more taxation and hence, more debt; we want a rep resentation which will not ask for more armies and more government al scandals; we want a government which will stand for, and hold hal lowed, a righteous appeal for liber ty, everywhere. We want an ad ministration which will hallow the essence of the Declaration of Inde - pendence, that bulwark of Ameri can liberty that iustrument which has for one hundred years been onr guide at all times and give u the purest and highest ideals of a gov ernment by. of, and for the people. Can you get this by voting for a man like Mr. McKinley? Can you get this by voting for a man in the control of men like Hanna? In Bryan and what he stands lor, only, can you find this. Divest yourself of partisan prejudice, and cast aside your devotion for "party' party right or wrong and these truths must come home to you. For yoa are, or should be, an Am erican.
