Director I'ague explains tbe Will

"Tho second crop of alfalf 1 ia be-
being cut in the southern counties.
The cutting of wheat for hay has
commenced in a few sections. Clov
er, timothy and cheat continue lo
tie cut. The hay crop is turning
out as well as it has ever done.
Fall-sown wheat, oats and barley
are turning yellow; in afew favored
localities barley harvest has com
menced. Early-sown spring grain
has commenced to head The spring
grain promises well; the yield will
not be ns hiavy aa the fall-sown.
The reports indicate that the grain
crop is in a fairly satisfactary con
dition, not aa good as in some years,
but better than in others.
8t ran berries are alamt over. Cher
ries are ripening; Uoyal Anns are
about two weeks late in ripening.
Apples, pears and prunes rve not
changed in condition; dropping has
ceaoed ami the fruit now on the
trees will probably mature. The
light fruit allows of an extra good
growth of wood, so that the orch
ards are really iient filed by the
light crop. Peaches are ripening in
the southern counties. In Jackson
county there is a good crop; in oth
er counties there will be little, if
any, more than thnt required for
thr. local markets.
"Hops are making good growth;
lice are increasing 11 nd spraying has
commenced in many of the yards
The current condition of the tines
is favorable for a good crop.
"Garden produce is making good
growth; rain is needed more for
gardens than for anything else.

much gusto. The vessels made the
harbor of Frisco about 5:30 o'clock
in the afternoon and went into

health is reported. It was learned
that the boys wer unanimous in
their demand that they be muster

will it be. This, of course, upsets
all idea of reception at Portland

The remains of Chas T. Tozier, one
of oar Hiilsboro friends, were
brought from Wallace, Idaho, Sat
urday evening, and buried in the
Masonic cemetery west of the city.
Mr. Tozier died at Wallace, July 6,
from the results of blood-poisoning,
and. as he bad been quite healthy,
his demise was a sad surprise.
Chan. T. Tozier was born in Ind
iana in 1832 and was married to
Caroline Miner in 1855, who died
in 1856. To this union one son
was born, Edgar A., now living at
Blairslown, Iowa.
On August 1, 1653, he married
Miss Ziralda P. May field, of Cass
County, Nebraska. To this union
two sons and three daughters were
born. One of the daughters, Ros
el la. lies buried in the Masonic
cemetery west of this city.
Judge Tozier waa sheriff of
this county four years, having
been elected in 1872, waa two terms
representative from this county
and served as County Judge for
four years. He was always con
genial, made many friends and was
honored and respected by all. He
always liked Hiilsboro and had
hoped some day to again make it
his home. He was a member of
the Masonic and Odd Fellows
lodge of this place. He helped to
build the M. E. church here and
was a member until the time of
his death. His death came sud
denly, himself not realizing or
thinking he was in any danger.
The first intimation his family re
ceived was a telegram stating that
Judge Tozier was dying. Albert
and Nellie, his son and daughter,
at once started for Wallace, Idaho,
but did not reach there until death
had claimed him. Mrs. Tozier has

George Bauer, a rather preposses

50, and who is a substantial busi

8auer came up from San Francisco
the first of the week to visit bis
brother, Jacob Sauer, who lives near
Farmington. His brother was in
Portland when he arrived at Farm

apprehension by his strange actions.
The brother's arrival home seemed
to quiet him for awhile, but later
on he became unmanageable and
was brought before Judge Rood. He
was examined by Judge Rood and
held over one day for developments.
Yesterday he was exceedingly irra
tional and last night it was decided
to send him him lo the asylum
Sauer has a large bakery in San
Francisco and is said to be worth
alut thirty or forty thousand dol
lars. About two years ago he was
robbed in San Francisco and sus
tained a severe injury on his head,
which may be the capse of his men
tal uneasiness. Sauer brought with
him his two little children, who are
now with their uncle. A month'
treatment at Salem will very likely
restore him.
