SI, BOOTLEGGER TRAPS SET "I PROHIBITION AGENTS PROVE GOOD CUSTOMERS. Your Money Refunded If Not as Represented James Fceney Arrested Twice in Past Week ; Sydney Cackette Also Falls Into Net. THE SUNDAY OREGOXTAK", PORTLAND, DECEMBER IT, 1922 r Prohibition agents were good cus tomers of James Feeney, bootleg ger Twice within the past week they ordered liquid supplies from him, and then on delivery arrested him. A half dozen bootleggers have been trapped In the past few days by government sleuths, who tele phoned their orders from the lobby of some hotel and then waited for the victim to appear with the in criminatory evidence. Feeney was arrested December 13 by agents who telephoned to him to deliver five bottles of liquor to a downtown hotel. When he appeared with the liquor he was arrested. At that time he had $1600 in cash on his person and secured his release on $400 bail. Yesterday Feeney was asked to deliver a quantity of liquor to a hotel near Fourteenth and Wash iwgton streets and was again ar rested. The second search disclosed but $1050. Unable to arrange with the United States commissioner for release on bail, Feeney was forced to go to jail. Sydney Cackette, former bellboy in a prominent club, fell into a like trap and paid $250 for his careless ness in the federal court yesterday morning. Cackette made the mistake of delivering three quarts of bonded whisky when prohibition agents, posing as thirsty citizens, called him by telephone. Baby Mary Johnson, who won sec ond place In the recent Shrine popu larity contest for babies, is the 16-months-old daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. George Johnson, 1714 Berkeley street, and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Y. Mayhead, 1966 Burrage street. She was born m Portland. Mr. Mayhead, the grandfather, is a past master of the London, Eng., land, lodge, Ma sons, and past master of affiliation of the AYash ington lodge here. Mr. Mayhead had two sons who served with the British army during the recent war. Baby Mary is Mr. and Mrs. May head's first American grandchild. i i SANTA VISITS AT STORE Shanahan's Opens "New Toy , De partment in Basement. Santa Claus in all his glory and a full line of Imported and domestic toys are to be found in the new basement toy department which has been opened up by Shanahan's store, 266 'Washington street. The new department has a com plete line of dolls, together with all sorts of mechanical toys. There are also all sorts of structural toys, in fact a full line of the smaller toys. Santa Claus is present in person at the store from 10 A. Jf. to 12 M. and from 2 to 5 P. M. . H. J. Ditter, manager, and Mrs. V. H. Northrup, assistant manager, are in charge of thfe new department. TRAVELERST0 GATHER Annual Dance and . Homecoming to Bo Ileld This Weekend. The annual dance and homecoming of the Travelers' Protective associa tion will be held at the Multnomah hotel Thursday. A buffet lunch will be served during the afternoon ses sion. At 6 P. M. a dinner dance will be held in the gold room of the Multnomah. The annual meeting and election of officers will be held next Satur day at 2 P. M., also at the Multno mah, and reports of the officers of the last year will be made and mat ters affecting traveling men brought up for action. - William O'Neill of Denver, past national president, will be the guest of the local division on January 6, Camps Close for Holiday's. ' ABERDEEN, Wash., Dec. 16. (Special.) The camps of the East Branch Logging company on the east fork of the Humptulips and those of the Wynooche Timber com pany In the Wynooche valley dis trict, closed down yesterday for the holidays. The closing of other camps will follow until by next Wednesday the shutdown will be complete.
