ROAD BULLETIN ISSUED Highway Department, in Weekly Ueport, Tells of Condition of Main Thoroughfares. SALEM, Or., Xov. 11. For the benefit of motorists road conditions' on all the main highways of the state are described in the following bulletin issued today by the state highway commission: Paelfio Highway. , Portland-Oregon City Willamette rrcer bridge at Oregon City closed for construc tion. Traffio from Portland for Oregon City and points south should take east Ida route via MUwaukie or Eighty-second street, both of which are paved throughout. Traffic for Oswego and Weit Linn should take west aide route, which is paved to Bolton. From Bolton to Oregon City bridge paving operation under way requiring detour, which will be safely passable except after rain. Orexon City-Canby-Salem Paved ex cept short gap at Pudding river, where bridge construction is under way. Salem-Jefferson-Albany Paved ex cept 0.8 mile of new un cured concrete through Jefferson; short detour . over graveled road and city pavement. Albany-Corvallis Gravel road Albany to Granger. Road closed beyond Granger on account of county construction opera tions. Detour west at Granger to paved "West Side highway 5 miles north of Corvallls. Follow pavement to Corval lia. Detour well signed. Travel may also detour via east side Albany-Corval-Us xoad. Follow Pacific highway signs past south limits of Albany, turning right at first cross road via this road to Corvallis. Corvallis-Monroe-Junction City-Eugene-Cottage Grove-Drain-Oakland-Roseburg-Myrtle Creek-Canyon ville Paved. Canyonville-Galesville Concrete pav ing operations under way. Traffic will- be regulated according to the following , Hchedule: Road la for one-way traffic only and is operated on a block system. Southbound traffic should be at Canyon ville before the hours of 6 :30 A. M., 11:30 A. M. and 4 P. M. Northbound traffic should be at flag station, two miles north of Galeeville, before the hours of 7:20 A. M. and 12:20 P. M. (noon) and 5 P. M. Traffic between the hours of 5 P. M. and 6:30 A. M. will be regulated by flagmen, with possible de uays of two to three hours. Portland-Newberg Paving work under way at three points. In vicinity of 'iigard hignway closed to traffic 8 A. M. to 5 P. M. Traffic southbound from - Portland detour, leaving highway at Red Rock Dairy north of Tigard and regaining at Tigard. Traffic north bound to Portland detour leaving hiKh way north of Tigard and regaining at JMuitnoman county tine, one-way traffic on each detour, both graveled and in good condition. In the vicinity of Middle ton concrete paving necessitating one way operation and some delay. Traf fic passed at intervals of one hour. In the vicinity of Newberg highway closed to traffic 8 A. M. to 5 P. M. Detour, leaving highway at four corners, 14 miles north of Newberg and regaining at Newberg viaduct; graveled and safe ly passable in all weather. Newberg - West Dayton - Lafayette-St Joseph - McMinnville - Whiteson - Amity Holmes Gap Paved with exception of a three-quarter-mile section near St. Jo seph and a three-quarter-mile section near Holmes Gap, both of which are graveled, t. Holmes Gap-Rickreall Graveled and in fair condition. Rickreall-Monmouth Paved. Monmouth-south to Benton county line Part earth road and part graveled. Detour via Suver and, Independence after rains. Hebo-Tiliamook Macadam and pave ment. (See Coast highway.) Tualatin Valley Highway. Portland-Beaverton - Hiilsboro - Forest Grove - Gaston - Yamhili-Cariton-St. Jo-seph-AicMinnville Paved throughout ex cept short gaps at Tualatin river and North Yamhill river. Mt. Hood Loop Highway, Clackamas County. Portland - Sandy Take Powell Valley road which is paved to Gresnam; grav eled sui. in good condition to Cottrell; thence via BluU road; graveled, fair con dition. Sandy-Salmon river Highway passable when dry, but very rough; impassable after rains. Detour via Marmot road, which is mostly planked and passable, but rough. Salmon Rlver-Zig Zag Unsurfaced, but sund and gravel soil and safely passable except after rains. Zig Zag-Government Camp Earth road blocked by snow at government camp. Alt. Hood Loop Highway In Hood River County. Hood River-Parkdale Good macadam road, except two-mile detour around .surfacing operations in the middle valley. Jones hili-Heppner r Excellent earth road. Heppner-Gilliam county line 80 per cent macadamized; all in very good con d?tion. Gilliam county llne-Heppner Junction very rough with many sharp curves: .drive carefully. This section under con struction and heavy going tn places on account of sand. Several detours neces sary but will signed. All traffic pos sible should use the Rhea siding-Arllng ton road. Ashland-Klamath Falls Highway. Green feprings route open, but very muddy and difficult. Stage service dis continued. Route via Ager preferable. Green Springs route open. Road in fair condition. Med ford-Ash land -Klamath Falls states taking route. Between Keene creek and Klamath Falls road is very rough and muddy (after rains. Klamath Falls-Lakeview Highway. Klamatn Falls-Dairy Macadam: in good condition. Visitors at the automobile booths at the Pacific International Livestock Show last week saw one of the most interesting displays which 'has been sponsored by a Portland automobile dealer In a long while In an Essex car, which was turned over and made to stand on its head. The stunt was designed to show the sturdy construction of the Essex coach, and was the central' feature of the display of the C. L. Boes Automobile company, Hudson and Essex distributors. The car was not strengthened in any way, it was declared, but was merely taken from the Boss showroom floor on upper Washington street to the exposition building and turned over. It rested oft blocks at the -four corners. Just to add a little further emphasis to the proposition, David Kilton, heavyweight member of the sales staff of the C. L. Bend-Sistera Highway, Road graveled except IVi miles be tween Deschutes river and Tumalo; in good condition. CALIFORNIA TAXES LARGE Motorists in Southern State Pay Huge Sum Into Treasury. SACRAMENTO, Cal., Nov. 11. Do motoriats of California help pay county taxes in California? Yes, to the extent of. S135,601,180. And this is in addition to the state license tax. The figures are according to a table prepared by the state board of equalization. There are 470,987 assessable auto mobiles in the state, according to tlie board's statement. Of this amount, Sacramento county has 15,000 cars, which are assessed at 3,000,000. Los Angeles county leads the state with 131,420 cars for as sessment, valued at $38,021,510. San a-a'neisco has 45,850 cars, assessed at JIB, 589,000, and Alameda county has 40,000 cars, assessed at $16,000,-000. Keimann Joins DeLay. G. L. Reimann, formerly with the C. ti. Boss Automobile company, has joined the W. R. DeLay Motor com pany, Peerless and Velie distrib utors, and will confine his attention to the Velie line, it was announced last week by H. H.
