It Is a symbol of the father of hie country, to 'whom it stands as a memorial. Mrs. Enrico Caruso, nee Dorothy Tarlc Benjamin, of New York, widow of the great tenor, and his son, Enrico Caruso Jr., are chief heirs to his great fortune, conservatively placed at $6,000,000. Silver Hen, carrier pigeon, took a message from President Harding to the White House recently from the presidential yacht Mayflower when the presidential party were on their way to Plymouth, Mass., to attend ceremonies. The bird was on the way five hours. Cyrus E. Woods of Greenburgh, Pa, Is the new American ambassador to -Spain. He will sail from New York, going by way of Havre on his way to Madrid. The fine old home of the great general of the south, Robert E. Lee, is to be reclaimed and rescued from Its present condition If a coterie of women, led by Mrs. Henry W. Keys, wife of the United States senator from New Hampshire, are successful in try ing to get .the government to re linquish it to their care for this pur pose. It' Is now standing 'In the Arlington national cemetery and Is . but a shell of Its former self. The women wish to make of the estate a place in keeping with Mount Vernon for beauty. On one of England's coast resorts this season they are playing a good joke on the former kaiser of Germany by using one of his U-boats as a women's dressing room. "The flight of time" is a sun dial that has but recently been placed In Garfield park, Indianapolis. It Is unique In that the "cnomen" is in the form of a human figure, being a green bronze statue of an Indian kneeling and drawing his bow. Ro man numerals of Verde antique mar ble are placed upon a circle of white cement four feet In diameter, which surrounds the inner dial of terraza. It was designed by Mrs. Myra Rey nolds Richards. M. Lenventeur of Paris has Invented a pedal power boat that outspeeds a motor-driven one on the Seine. Two little hulls, between which he sits and pumps with his feet, provide ample stability with but little resistance. The sprocket is geared direct to the propeller and operates at a 30-degree angle.
