Captain j. H. Roberts, remembered at Neah-Kah-N'ie a one of the first men connected with the moving of the wrecked schooner Oakland, re visited the Tavern last week with hi wife. Their home is in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. E. Nelson were guests at the Tavern recently. Mrs. J. Kirby Klmmel and Jo sephine Kimmel of Portland enjoyed a visit at Cain's place last week. On Thursday Mrs. A. E. Doyle en tertained for the Misses Shenohon of Minneapolis, who are nieces of Mrs. Kiehle. Amonrr the pruests were Mrs. E. H. The sruesrts of Neah-Kah-Nie Tav ern ami their friends on "Saturday enjoyed an unusually fine musical treat when a prosramme was given, the principal numbers of which were violin and piano classical selections by Miss Helen Harper and- Miss Jean Harper, sonps by Miss Julia Morse of Chicago and group singing of songs by the college girls at the Tavern. Hikers along the coast who reached the Tavern last week In cluded C. E. Stemler and Thomas J. Stipe, from Ecola. Mr. and Mrs. George Prichard of FortlanU were hikers who reached Cain's place from Cannon beach last week. A motoring group spending several days at Cain's includes Mrs. George E. Jackson of Portland and Agnes Harwas of Chehalis, Wash. Mrs. Blanche Jt. Miller and daugh ter Margaret Ann are visiting Mrs. S. G. Reed at the Tavern. Colonel J. B. Cavanaugh of Portland and Miss Mary Peck Thompson of Chicago, who were guests of M. H. Insley at the Tavern, motored back to Portland with Mr. Insley by way of Sea-side. Jessie M. Burce and Ella A. Kar nopp of Portland were hikers who reached Cain's place from Cannon beach last week. Clarence J. Young and H. M. En siern of Portland hiked in from El'Tt creek and reached the Tavern last week. E. A. Brown of Portland was a visitor at Neah-Kah-Nie recently. Another hiking party from Cannon beach included H. Cleveland and A. J. Anderson. Visitors at Manzanita last weak enjoyed a variation from the unbroken lair weather of the eniie summer, when a short thundr storm came up from the. south. The cloud effects are very beautiful here, due to the juxtaposition of comparatively I Mr. and nign mountains ana sea. Those who see this sector of the seashore only In clear weather miss a great phase of its beauty, and the storm was greatly enjoyed, its short duration keeping it from upsetting plans al ready laid for outdoor activity. Dancing parties and card play ing I camp iook up a great deal of the time fpent In indoor social activity during the week. A dance and "five hun dred" party, followed by music and a special feature programme, was treatly enjoyed the night of August 12 by guests at Manzanita inn. The moonlight of the past week, almost equal to that of the harvest moon, has lured many of the Lake Lytle folk at night to boating trips on the lake, as well as to strolls ; along the fine wide sea beach. The ' view of the entire lake from. the hotel porches, or from the cottages along I the -ocean ridge,, forma a beautiful picture when toned down by the sof 1 1 light of the moon. Camps along the shore only add to the picturesqueness of this scene, and the attractions of the place are bringing In many such campers this season.
