The bride is the daughter of a -wealthy planter of the Hawaiian lElands. Mr. and Mrs. Ross will ar rive in Portland about next Wednes day. EVENTS OF THE "WEEK. Mr. and Mfs. John Goheen of Van couver, Wash, celebrated their golden wedding April 25 at the home of their daughter. Mrs. A. M. McClain of Els worth, Wash. Many relatives and friends were present. Mr. and Mrs. Goheen were married April 25, 1871, at CurUsviHe, Pa. Three persons who witnessed the ceremony were present, J. E. Gwlnn and F. L. Gwlnn of Garfield. Wash., and Mrs. John J. Schick of Cheney, Wash- brothers and eister of Mrs. Goheen. Three daughters, Mrs. M. E. Carson of Minnehaha, Mrs. A. M. McClain of Ellsworth, and Mrs. C. A. Gill of East Vancouver, with their families were present. A family dinner was served, t which covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Goheen. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Gwinn and P. L. Their marriage vows were reread In St. Francia church by Rev. I. E. McNa mee. ' L. HeJtiman married Mary Theresa Benjamin at West Point, la coming to Oregon about SO years ago. They have five children living, four daughters and one son. The four daughters and families wene present. Mrs. A. Rothenfluch of Mount Angel Mrs. C N. Gottsacker of Portland, Mrs. J. Cersonski of Harrlsburg, Mrs J. E. Gottsacker of Portland. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. Schall horn, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Hurtig. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Donnery, Mftbel Biggs, Gertrude Donnery, Josephine Hurtig, Nick Aitenhofen, Al'bert Schallhorn. Twenty of their grandchildren were also present. The house was dec orated with ferns and flowers. Colore were carried out in lavender and gold. The true college spirit was exem plified last Friday when the students of the public speaking classes of the Portland center extension division of the University of Oregon assembled In the First Presbyterian church house and honored Dr. George Rebec, who Is bead of the division About 125 were preeent. Dr. Rebeo was the recipient with a handsome umbrella, gold handled and engraved with his Initials. Mrs. Rebeo and Mrs. Helen Miller Senn, Instructor of public speaking, received bouquets of flow ers. For a programme there was a burlesque and songs and Instrumental numbers. Refreshments were served. Dr. Rebeo commended the work of the extension department and its suc cess among the students of this especial department. CHEHAUS, Wash., May 1 (Spe cial.) Mr. and Mrs. John W. Rey nolds, pioneer . residents of Lewis county, but who for some years past have made their borne in Taooma, were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. U Brown on Pennsylvania avenue Wednesday night, the occa slon being their golden wedding an niversary. Mrs. Brown le a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds. The latter came to Lewie county 40 years ago, having been married 10 years prev iously In Pennsylvania. During his residence in Lewis county Mr. Key nolds was engaged in- the sawmill business at Reynolds station near McCormick and at Napavine. He was also Interested in a Chehalis bank for a time. Mrs. Reynolds has for many years been active in Women a Chris- tion Temperance union work. Mr. Reynolds Is 73 years of age and Mrs. Reynolds 70. The eight living child ren were all present at the celebra tion. They were: Mrs. Carroll Brown and Mrs. John M. Ponder of Chehalis, Mrs. Mattie Clark of Tacoma, Mrs. Fred Allen of Chehalis, Mrs. H. O. Schucklng of Salem, keeping open house for them ait her residence during the after noon hours, when they received more than 200 of their friends Informally. Among the guests at the reoeptlon were Mrs. A. M. Bowman of Port land, who assisted as bridesmaid a the marriage of the celebrants. Mrs. Gilbert wore on the occasion the orange wreath that had been a part of her wedding costume 50 years before. Both Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert come of pioneer families, the former, whe served In the civil war, coming west in the early '60s; Mrs. Gilbert, who was then Miss Estella McCuIlv. com Ing to Oregon with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David McCully. in 18&Z. The marriage of Miss McCully and Mr. Gilbert took place at the home of the bride a parents on North Fron street. April 27, 1871, Rev. a C. Strat ton reading the service. Shortly after the ceremony Mr. Gilbert and his bride took the Southern Pacific mixed train for a honeymoon trip to Port land, a place that they were four hours in reaching. Mr. Gilbert was city treasurer of Salem for a number of years. Later he was appointed postmaster, a po sition which ne held for live years. Following this he was superintendent f the Oregon state penitentiary, an office which he retained for four years. Several different enterprises oocuoled his Intervening years. Two other children of the Gilberts. Mrs. B. O. Schucking of Salem, and Warren Gilbert of Denver, Colo- were present on the golden anniversary. The latter has achieved a name In the field of newspaper cartooning, work ln-g first on th papers of Kansas City and later on the three Denver papers. one of which he Is still affiliated with in the department of pictorial adver tising, Masses of flowers, and dozens of messages of congratulation found their way to the Gilbert residence throughout the day. A delightful dancing party was given by the members of the Phi Pi Psi sorority Friday evening in the assembly room of the Hotel Portland. More than 70 young people were pres aai. Mrs. Ruby Rector was chairman of the committee In charge and her assistants were: Miss Florence Tat ham. Miss Helen Ballard, Miss Hazel Isackson and Miss Lane. e Mrs. J. F.
