won the first game of today's double
header. 10 to 1, and San Francisco,
the second. 5 to 7.
Five' of Seattle's runs in the first
Kame were gathered in the eighth on
five hits and Caveney's error. The
Seals duplicated this performance in
the seventh inning of the second
game, except that Schorr allowed two

cial.) Portland today won its third
straight game from Los Angeles. It
was Portland's ninth victory out of
the last ten Karnes played. The final
score today was: Portla.nd 8. Los
Angeles 2.
"Suds" Sutherland broke Bill
Pertica's recortl for consecutive wins,
which had reached six. McCredie's
chucker permitted 7 hits against 12
charged Pertica. Dik Cox's fielding
and Schaller's hitting featured.
Cox Scares Ansel.
Sailor Richard took nine putouts in
the right garden and on three occa
sions ambitious Seraphs stood on
third, making no attempt to score,
after catches by the Santa Monica
boy who throws the pellet a la bullet.
Schalter registered four hits out of
five excursions. ' .
Wade Killefer's hired help con
tributed five errors,-a couple of them
assisting Portland in scoring, but
they made no difference for no club
could have beaten the Mackmen the
way they played this afternoon.
Koehler and Kingdom , committed
Portland's two errors. Singles by
Blue and Wisterzil and Maisel's sacri
fice fly account for the two Beaver
runs in the first. Koehler's smash
scored Siglin in the third. Maisel and
Schaller registered on Cox s bite,
Sutherland's single, a base on balls
to Blue, Wisterzil's double, a single
by Schaller and Siglin's sacrifice fly
rang the bell thrte times lor 11c-
Credle in the ninth.
Kallio Has Lime Shoulder.
Griggs' sacrifice fly scored Killefer
for Los Angeles in the first and Lapin,
batting for Pertica in the ninth, drove
Red Andrews across the plate.
Andrews played left field In place of
Ellis.
Pitcher Rudy Kallio, Beavers, is
suffering from two torn ligaments in
his right shoulder and will not be
able to pitch for a week. For this
reason, Southpaw Sam Ross, obtained
from Vernon, will "come in mighty

gene, May 15. (Special.) -The Uni
versity ot Oregon was the victor in
the tennis tournament with Willam
ette university, staged here yesterday
and today, winning both of the men's
singles events and the men's doubles,
and losing the women! s singles, and
the mixed doubles. Mort Brown,
northwest singles champion, won his
singles match over Mooney of Will
amette by clever headwork, and
smashing drives in the most exciting
match of the tournament. ,
The Oregon men's team will meet
the team of the University of Wash
ington soon, probably May 29, in a
tournament. The Washington team,
composed of Bob Waburschak, Bill
Taylor and Marshall Allen, is rated as
one of the best on the coast, and the
Oregon trio, composed of Mort Brown,
Ken Smith and Harry Westerman, ex
pect a hard tussle.

Ietroit Promises to Send Couple
of Likely Men AVest.
LOS ANGELES, Cal.. May 15. (Spe
cial.) Walter McCretfie, manager of
the Portland club, and Scout Eddie
Herr, Detroit, conferred tonight and
upon the conclusion of their confab
both announced that Portland was
to soon get two additional pitchers
from Detroit. McCredie eaid that
while he was satisfied with his pres
ent staff, he wished to be well forti
fied for "He intended to be in the race
all season."
Neither would say who the pitchers
would' be but Herr asserted that
"They were a pair of youngsters
Hughie Jennings had lying around."

("Brick") Eldred, centerf ielder for
the Sacramento club of the Pacific
Coast Basqrball league, who was in
definitely suspended for insubordina
tion, has been sold to the Seattle club,

second conference meet and to the

electrified the crowd with a jump of
13 feet 5-8 of an inch in the pole
vault. This, it was announced, broke
the Pacific coast record of 12 feet 10
7-S inches, made a dozen years ago
by Leland Stanford Scott of Stanford
University.
There wereplenty of thrills in the
mile run. This presented a neck and
neck contest between Swan of the
Oregon Aggies and Sprott of the Uni
versity of California, the Oregon farm
school athlete winning by close
margin.

The javelin throw of Hanner. Stan
ford, of 180 feet two inches and the
discus throw of Bartlett. Oregon, of
13 feet, 11 inches established new
records, it was announced, for the Pa
cific association of the A. A. U.
Kirksey and Wells of Stanford,
along with Merchant of California,
tied for first honors in the number
of points, each man making 10.
Kirksey won both sprints. Wells
captured both hurdle events, and
Merchant took first in the broad
jump, second in the 100-yard dash and
third in the discus.
Templeton of - Stanford made eight
points.
In the dash events, Stanford led
California 24 to 18 but the results of
the distance events .wherein Cali
fornia took 11 points and Stanford
three, gave the Bears a lead in all
track events.
In the field events, California led
Stanford by a margin of half a point.

Lease on Diamond' Is Not to Be Re
newed, Says McCraw.
PITTSBURG, Pa.. May 13. The
New York American League baseball
club will not use the Polo grounds
for its New York City games after
the close of this season, according to
an announcement yesterday by Man
ager McGraw of the New York Na
tionals. The lease held by the New York
Americans will expire at tkat time,
said Mr. McGraw, and will not be
renewed.
Kerr-Giffords Meet Rosebuds.
One of the premier -attractions for
the basebajl bugs today will be the
clash betv?een the fast-coming Kerr
Gifford team and the newly organized
Portland Rosebuds, to be played on
the Columbia oark diamond at 12
