William Allen Neilson, president ot Smith college, will spend next Tues day in Portland. He will speak at Reed college at 4 P. M. The Smith college alumnae and their husbands will entertain Dr. Neil son at dinner at the University col lege. It is very much regretted that Dr. Neilson will spend only one day lu Portland. A delightfully informal luncheon was given for Mrs. H. C. Wortman on Friday, 'when Mrs. George Lawrence Jr. was hostess. Covers were laid for 12 of Mrs. Wortman's friends. Mrs. Charles Lauer of 70 Everett treet celebrated her TSth birthday last Thursday, when she was at home to all of her friends. Many of the women pioneers called. Miss Violet Grayson entertained in formally Wednesday night at her I home in the Tudor Arms. The rooms were prettily decorated with spring flowers and foliage. Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Wochos attended the couple and Rev. Agnew Johnston performe'd the ceremony. The bride Is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Shirey of 435 Mason street and is a graduate of Jefferson high school. Mr. Forsyth is in the automobile business in thia city. EVENTS OP THE WEEK. The Laurelhurst club Tuesday even ing men's unit gave a St. Patrick's ve dance which was attended by more than 75 couples. The hall was tastily decorated in the colors of the Emerald Isle and a number of the dancers appeared in costume. Dinty Moore's "bar" did a thriving business in all refreshments of a greenish tint. The committee in charge of the af fair Messrs. Jordan, Williamson, Car penter and Duffield, had numerous stunts In surprise for those that at tended. The Laureihurst club ladies pro ressive unit held a business meeting Tuesday afternoon at the clubhouse. Mrs. Edith Datern entertained with a line party at the Orpheum Wednes day afternoon in honor of Mrs. J. C. the city. Following the performance the party had tea at the Hotel Port land. Those enjoying Mrs. Davern's hospitality were: Mrs. Zanker, Mrs. C. V. Stater, Mrs. J. H. Mackenzie, Mrs. Carl G. Liebe, Mrs. Ralph Watson and Mrs. Mabel Webb. Mrs. Gordon E. In addition to appropriate games planned for the evening musical numbers were given by Mrs. A. H. Cantnl and W. J. Gill. A reading was given by Mrs. Gruell and an interesting talk by Mrs. John Talbot. L. D. Goodrich fur nished much enjoyment by his humor ous ceremony initiating four new B. I. L.s. Members of Ivanhoe lodge No. 1, Knights of Pythias, were the recipi ents of a pleasant surprise on Tues day evening. During their work the sisters of Orphia temple No. 18, Pyth- ian Sisters, secretly arranged a sump tuous bullet luncn in tne banquet nail adjoining the lodge room. Following the serving several short talks were made and the sisters assured the knights that if a reasonable number would Join Orphia temple a banquet would be given them at least once a month. It is hoped the attention ot all knights will be drawn to this lib eral inducement. Shepherd was accompanist- - Mrs. Ralph Robinson sang a group of songs: "My Dear," by Salter; "Mem ories," by Parks; "Love's Dream," her own composition, music written by Katherine Torke. Mrs. A. E. David son was accompanist. Honors in "500" McMullin. Queen Hutchinson pre sented the winners with beautiful prizes. Refreshments were served at close of the entertainment. Mrs. A. H. Each guest found the surprise enfolded in a tiny envelope used as a place card on a table most artistically decorated with daffodils, yellow tulle and tiny kewpies. The guests were the Misses Ellen. and Edna Kelly, Lucile Dowling, Frances Klrby, Ail"n Noren, Gladys Noren. Mrs. Tom Wiley, Mrs. James Suirmer, Helen Sutherland and Julia Smith. Sriss Morris, daughter of Mrs. N. V. Morris and a student of Jeffer son high school, has a host of frlonda in this city. Mr. Noren Is a University of Oregon student and a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Noren, who reside in this city.
