Idaho Governor's Name Fa vorably Received. COLONEL PATCH OUT, TOO State Treasurer Eaglcson Urged by His Friends to Run for Governor, Speaker Kiger Candidate. ! BOISE. Idaho, Feb. 21. (Special.) The entrance of Governor D. W. Davis Into the senatorial race to contest for the republican nomination with Frank H. Goodlnp, a known candidate, is a real possibility, while State Treasurer John W. Easleson is likely to become a candidate for povernor, fulfilling- an aspiration he has held for a long time, his friends say. Another republican gubernatorial possibility, is Lieutenant-Governor O. C. Aloore of St. An thony, who since the republican love feast has been most favorably re ceived by many party leaders. .. Governor Davis is still non-committal. His prospects for the senator- chip were frankly discussed by friends and enemies alike. This was also true of former Governor Gooding. The friends of both attempted to advance their stock and succeeded. Colonel Patch Kntera Race. - Colonel L. "V. Patch has decided to enter the race for United States sen ator, and has resigned his position as adjutant-general to take effect April X, severing all connections with the present state administration. His friends declare he will be placed In a strong position, whether nominated for the senate or not. - State Treasurer Eagleson is on the last year of his third term, and will not be a candidate for a fourth term. j Some strong American Legion man ,will likely be named to succeed him. j The friends of KasJeson have known ( for a long time that he had his eyes , on the governorship. They .believe ! he can secure the support of his own j party and add strength to the ticket I by drawing independent voters. His enemies declare he would not make a t strong gubernatorial candidate and his greatest drawback is his lack of ! sympathy for the commission form of I Mate government, which Idaho now ; has and of which Governor Davis is ! the champion. Speaker Kiger's announcement that he is a candidate for the republican gubernatorial nomination came as surprise. Kiger declared flat-footedly against machine politics and stated he was heartily in accord with the plans of the Young Men's Republican club. . Only Two Office to Fight Over. On the state ticket there will be but two offices for the republicans to fight over governor and treas urer for it Is generally conceded that other state officials will be candi dates to succeed themselves and will he nominated. They are: Secretary of state, R. O. Jones; attorney-general, R. I Black; state auditor, E. H. Gal let; state mine inspector, Robert N. Bell, and state superintendent of pub lic Instruction. Miss Ethel E. Redfleld. While the congressional and state tickets are receiving unusual atten tion, presidential candidates have not been forgotten. A Leonard Wod club has been perfected here with George R. Barker of Sand Point as campaign manager. The selection of Barker is considered significant, for h is known to be an opponent of I'nited States Senator W. E. Borah and had bitterly attacked the latter through his paper, the Sand Point Review. The M ood club will try to get an instructed Idaho delegation to the republican national convention. Democrats Cemtnre Their Chalrmaa. Democrats of the state are deter mined that the campaign shall be a fight from start to finish. Irrespect ive of the fact Senator Jerome J. Day of Moscow declared recently that he proposed to remain with the demo cratic party, thus contradicting re ports to the effect that the Days might become active members of the republican party, a number of leading bourbons met in Boise a few days ago and it is said they went on record in favor of censuring Chairman Day for failure to perfect the state organisa tion and calling upon him to proceed! forthwith to calt the state committee together to decide on the place for holding the state convention to elect delegates to the national convention and to get busy organizing for the campaign. Gubernatorial possibilities within the party were discussed and it was decided to send a delegation to wait upon William M. Morgan, chief Jus tice of the supreme court, whose term expires this year, to become the par ty's nominee for governor. Idaho democrats were greatly dis appointed over the failure of the president to name James H. Hawley, former governor, a secretary of the interior. Mr. Hawley has been in dorsed by many organizations, civic clubs and individuals In the west, and the day before the appointment was made the legislature passed a mem orial to the president urging him to name Idaho's ex-governor. California Police Hold Mr. and Mrs G. E. Miller on Suspicion of I. W. Y. Leanings. LONG BEACH, Cal., Feb. 21. (Spe cial.) O. E. Millner of Ashland. Or., who asserts mat he is a reputable citizen of that -city, having- been former- business man and trustee of the chamber of commerce, has r tained a firm of lawyers in connec tion with what he declares to have been the unwarranted arrest of him self and wife in Long Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Millner were arrested by a policeman while walking on the Pike and taken to the police station were postppned from last Thursday evening: on account of the illness of one of the debaters. Major-General Leonard Wood's campaign man agers have not decided whether they will file his name in the presidential primaries in Nortn Dakota March 16. The headquarters in Chicago so in dicated today in response to an in quiry by a Fargo newspaper. The republican state convention held in Bismarck this week asked that pres idential candidates do not file in the March 16 primary, declaring it would complicate the state situation. Sen ator Hiram Johnson has already filed and Governor Frank Lowden's cam paign managers have announced he will not file. RAIL EXECUTIVES NAMED V. P. Kenney Is Vice-President of Traffic for Great Northern. ST. PAITL. Feb. 21. William P. Kennev Cas today elected vice-presi dent of the Great Northern railroad in charge of traffic. Charles O. Jenks was elected vice-president in charge of operation. Kenney and Jenks are at present federal manager and assistant federaj manager, respectively of the Great Northern. Grand total 74.586 Increase over Friday.... 152 W. F. EALLY ACQUITTED Defendant Not Guilty of Murder of Mrs. Mary E. Bryan. SEATTLE, Wash., Feb. 21. William Fay Kally, house painter, was found not guilty of a charge of first degree murder in connection with the death of Mrs. Mary E. Bryan of Puyallup, Wash., by a jury in superior court here late today. Mrs. Bryan's body was found in Mount Baker here on the morning of October 20 last. The coroner said death was due to stran gulation. The state contended that Eally had killed Mrs. Bryan for money she had in her possession. Eally's mother, Mrs. Ann Nemitz, was charged Joint ly with her son, but the case against her was later dismissed by the court. Grant Bond Issue Irregular. ' SALEM. Or., Feb. 21. (Special.) A bond issue of 81000 voted by the tax payers of school district Xo. 43. ia Grant county, today was held to be irregular by the attorney-general be cause the minutes of the meeting of the board of directors- failed to show that the election on issuance of the securities wu authorized in compli ance with the state laws. The opin ion was requested by O. P. iiotf. state treasurer. and quizzed at length on the suspi cion, apparently, of being I. W. W. agitators. The Investigation was based on the allegation that the night previously they had been where a disturbance took place. They were finally permitted to go. The Millners came here from the north six months ago for the benefit of Mrs. Millners health. Millner states that he conducted the Overland garage in Ashland for many Jears and that he is a personal friend of Governor Ben W. Olcott of Oregon. PARIS. Feb. 21. Rear Admiral Fhilip Andrews, commander of the American warships in the Adriatic has been recalled, according to a Rome dispatch to the Havas agency, because of disorders which have oc curred at Spalato. WASHINGTON, Feb. 21. Emphatic denial that Rear Admiral Andrews, commander of the American warships, in the Adriatic had been recalled was made today by Secretary Daniels.
