The active members of Delta Gamma were hostesses yesterday for a delight ful informal luncheon in the rose room of the Benson hotel. About 20 of the younger set were present. Including the members of the sorority and their friends who are planning on entering college in the fall. Mrs. V. T. Belcher presided over the table, which was dec orated with lavender asters and ferns. Corsage bouquets of Ophelia roses marked the places for the guests. After luncheon the guests enjoyed a line party at the Baker. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Beck entertained a number of their Salem and Portland friends September 12, the occasion be ing their twenty-fifth wedding anni versary. About 60 guests were present. Tiny telegrams were used in telling the news of the engagement of their daughter, Vivian, to Renwick Taylor. Miss Beck was a Jefferson high school Birl, and Mr. Renwick was a Willam ette university student at the time of his tnlistment in the army. The young people will make their home in Port land. Mrs. "Willard I. Griffith (Mabel Nel eon), was hostess at a miscellaneous shower Friday night in honor of Miss Beck. Her guests were Dorothy Rob ertson, Jennie Maguire, Elsie Losquist, Mary Losquist. Helen Strausser, Elea nor Spall, Jessie Taylor, Mary Briggs of Salem, Jessie Elizabeth Elliott, Vir ginia Patton, Nellie Guthrod, Hulda Renolds and Elizabeth Burbee. The Mayflower club gave a delight ful card and dancing party Tuesday night in the assembly room of the Hotel Portland. More than 100 people chared the hospitality and incidentally added to the fund which the club is collecting for the furnishing of a room at the Jeanne d'Arc residence hall for girls. About 40 couples enjoyed the dancing and cards were played at eight tables. The prize for women was taken by Mrs. William Broeren and the honors for men went to W. N. Holt. Mrs. Helen Jackson Banghart is president of the club and the committee in charge of the party consisted of Mrs. Fennell, Mrs. McCarthy, Mrs. Gambee and Mrs. Fauss. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Fischer, Mrs. Ida Foster and Percy George the past week entertained at a welcome party for Mr. and Mrs. George Nichols, who have comr from New York to make their home here. The committtee in charge of the opening party is Dr. and Mrs. F. M. Higby, Mr. and Mrs. Chester W. Bourne, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Crout, Mr. and Mrs. Russell H. Stephens and Jess H. Dunlap. The women's annex of the Portland Social Turnverein will give a dance the last Saturday of each month. The first dance will be given September 27.
