Two new closed car modela will be brought out next month. Oaklaad Gotaa" Great Cans. Oakland, at Pontlac. has experienced little labor and material trouble. Its production has reached the highest thla plant will drop to a minimum, af ter which the first 500 cars of 'the new series will start coming through. The average dally production of the 32 leading car plants in Michigan and Ohio during June was 3647 cars, 31 cars less than in May. Both May and June production is nearly 1000 cars short of point in its history. Its dally output April figures, during which 7084 cars is now averaging. 233 cars, an Increase of 40 cars over May figures. The were produced. This decrease in pro duction is entirely due to labor disturb- rapidly clearing in Detroit, every indi cation now points to nearly normal conditions as far as labor is concerned during July. The coming month will 'probably see production again climbing in the majority of factories in this dis trict. , DOUBLE DECK MOTOR BUSSES One Hundred Cars of New Type Will - Be Operated in Detroit. DETROIT, July 12. Within a few weeks 100 double-deck motor busses will be operating here. The Detroit Motorbusses company has been organ ised with a capital of 31.500,000. Rich ard M. Meade, formerly president and general manager of the Fifth Avenue Coach company, New York, is presi dent. The busses will be similar to those in use in New York, but lower. Each will hold 47 passengers. Lansing, is having difficulty in getting small parts for universal joints, electric equip ment, closed car bodies, proper cloth trimmings- for closed cars and kbakl tops for export jobs. ,On one or two occasions the material shortage be came so acute that the plant waa with in 13 houra of closing down. By pressing every available man into ser vice and rushtng them to the plants of the various tarts makers to. hurry up delivery, the company was able to se cure sufficient material to tide them over the crisis. On several occasions lately this com panr has faced this same situation. Even now truck are being shipped minus electric equipment. This Is made by Auto-Late at Toledo, whose em ployes have been on strike for some time. When the electrical apparatus arrives Oldsmobile is shipping it to their distributors by express to place on the trucks in the salesrooms. Hr Rsmalaa- Stroma-. Olds Is running 40 trucks and 140 cars dally. There Is a shortage of un skilled labor In Lansing and this com pany Is obliged to conduct a recruiting campaign In nearby towns. Keo at Lansing. This is ons of the few companies which has not been seriously effected. Reo is going to discontinue production of the fonr-cyllnder cars, supplementing same wl'h six-cylinder models. Briscoei at Jackson, is turning out 73 cars daily. This company had large stock of material on hand and to date has not found It necessary to purchase mors parts ia any great quan tity. Reducing, says "Old Doc" Wilcox in a communication received last week at the office of the Manley Auto company, is merely a matter of speed, and by speed he means the speed of an auto mobile. No one seems to Know wny this particular formula was sent at this particular time to the Manley Auto company, unless It was tnat wiicox knewrfhat Mr. Manley and Mr. Menxiea, both of whom, by the way, are fairly robust in build, had just returned from the Taeoma races. Anyhow. Wilcox is reminding the Portlanders that he lost 14 pounds on the day he drove his racing National to victory in the 500-mile race at Indian apolis a few years ago. . Just nerore the start of the 600-mile classic Wil cox weighed 162 pounds. After circling the 2 Vi -mile track 200 times he tipped the scales at 137 V. pounds. In return for this lost weight WI1 cox received 31343 a pound, his prise winnings aggregating 320,000. It is this new knowledge that has increased the de mand for tires built by hand of the best matrials and guaranteed for long mileage. Mile for mile, over any road. Manufacturing businesses are tending to go to the states with administra tions awake to this fact. It is in the big manufacturing states that the most rapid improvement of highways . is evident."
