STRAJTD OFFERS -MAXY THRILLS
In "Bucking Broadway," Cowboys
Invade Roof Garden.
The invasion of a New York roof gar
den resort by a squad of cowboys and
a fight 20 stories In the air are two
of the outstanding features of "Buck
Ing Broadway," the latest Universal pic
ture starring Harry Carey, which comes
to the Strand Theater today.
"Bucking Broadway" with five acts
of promising vaudeville, comprises the
latest "photoville" offering of the
popular Strand.
Carey Is one of the most popular. If
not the leading, film player in the re
gard of Strand patrons, and his latest
picture Is said to be the most excit
ing in which he has yet appeared. It
la one of those tales of the Invasion
of the East by the W.-sat in which com
edy Is blended with "punch" in a de
lightful manner.
The climax of the picture is a fight
which takes place on the top of a
huge hotel. The villain of the story
has turned the bead of Harry's girl,
and the cow-puncher hero learns of her
presence at a supper at the roof gar
den cafe. Phoning for his pals, who
are at the stockyards with a consign
ment of horses, Harry dashes Joyously
into the fray, and engages a doxen men ,
at once.
Tables, chairs and dishes go crash
ing to the floor, and when tHe cowboys
arrive the scene of destruction is al
most indescribable. In the .course of
the fight Harry is knocked over the
edge of a balcony and falls 15 feet to
the floor. His assailants Jump down
after him, one of them landing right
on top of him. When the scene was
over Cary discovered that the impact
had resulted in a fractured rib.
The vaudeville bill includes McMa-

cing and novelty bag punching; Floyd

'CINDERELLA MAX' TO BE NEXT
Alcazar Players Will Present Pleas
ing Play in Near Future.
The thing that appeals to young and
old alike in the old fairy tale of Cin
derella is the romance of it and that
Is Just the reason why "The Cinderalla
Man," which will be seen here for the
first time when the Alcazar Players of
fer it at the Baker for the week start
ing next Sunday mattinee. has been
such a wonderful success.
It was inspired by the reading of the
fairy tale. In this case the man is
very poor and it is a reverse case of
the Princess going to him in his mis
erable little attic, bringing with her
sunshine and happiness, with a big door
opening out Into the future . filled with
the promise of love and the rainbow of
prosperity on the horizon.
Some have called "The Cinderella
Man" better than "Peg o' My Heart."
It ran a whole year at the Hudson
Theater in New York City and has Just
been released for stock. Portland theater-goers
have something to look for
ward to In its coming to the Baker.
