decided upon was the statement

Thereafter, he said, the Orpheum
would erect a new theater in
Portland, a duplicate of the Kan
sas f"ity Orpheum. completed re
cently at a cost of IIUi.000.
The Orpheum Is not exercising
Its option on Ihe present Port
land theater, said Meycrfield. be
cause the building la not suited
to Its purposes. Four more weeks
of the lease remain and there
after, he said. It would be simple
to move into another building
temporarily to elbso the season,
which ends about the middle of
Tortland Is to have another vaude
villa circuit and tha Orpheum Theater
Is to be housed In another building, ac
cording to reliable Information ob
tained last night. The new circuit,
Ackerman 4: Harris, hss obtained a
lease upon the present Orpheum build
ing and will enter Ihe Portland field In
about a month. If tne present plans are
For soma time the Orpheum has been
occupying Its present location on
month to month basis, with an option
to purchase that expires today. This
option will not be taken up.

pheum Circuit. Is authority for this
statement. In a wire to Carl ueiier.
manager of the Orpheum Theater here,
last night. President Meyerfeld said:
-We m-til not exercise option to pur
chase. We will play balance of the
season mot likely In another theater,
and we will have our new theater In
Portland ready for next season."
It Is understood that the Ackerman
tc Harris people yesterday closed a
leas for the Orpheum property through
th Seattle bank that has been hand
ling the Interests of John W. Consl
dine. The advice received from President
Meyerfeld means that tho Orpheum
people will be In the market, almost
at once, for another theater In this
city In which to present Orpheum
vaudeville. They will be expected to
vacate their present quarters. It Is
expected, within 30 days.
Carl llelter said last night:
"If th Information of the lease to
Ackerman a: Harris, coming from Se
attle, la correct. It will simply mean
a change la the location of orpheum
vaudeville. From converi-atlons I have
had with Mr. Beck and Mr. Meyerfeld,
I know that the Orpheum is In Port
land to stay.
-If we are lo give up the present
location we will move to another thea
ter, and we anticipate no difficulty in
finding a theater that will be suitable
as a home for the high-class attrac
tions that we present."
The Ackerman & Harris theaters
lake the name of Hippodrome. They
present 10-cent vaudeville, consisting

point In Its flght against the water
companies today, when Circuit Judge
Campbell algned an order dismissing
the suit of the Mlnthorne prlnsa
Water Company for a permanent In
junction and dissolved the temporary
Injunction which ' for sereral months
has tied up the completion of the mu
No announcement was made here to
day by W. S. U'Ren. attorney for the
w.t.r rnmnsnv. but an appeal to the
Supreme Court Is expected. The suit of
th Mllwaukle water company is now
pending before the higher tribunal.
Mllwaukle a year ago voted to install
a municipal water system, which was
to he supplied from the Bull Run mains
As soon as construction began the
Milaaukle and th Mlnthorne Springs
water companies filed suit for Injunc
tions. Intending to force the city to
buy their plants. Temporary Injunc
tions were Issued, restraining the city
from completing its lines or selling
water. Ijiter one exception was made
so Ihsl the Mllwsukle school building
could have Hull Hun aster.

The Lincoln day celebration at the Ho
tel Medford on February 12 promises
to be the largest Republican banquet
ever held in Southern Oregon. Tickets
for 150 guests already have been sold.
Governor Withycombe will be the
guest of honor, and It is also expected
that Tom Kay will attend, as will
Fred Buchtel, sealer of weights and
measures; Carl Schumaker, state game
warden: Ralph Williams. Republican
National committeeman, and Frank M.
Warren, of Portland.
Bert Anderson, chairman of the Jack
son County Republican committee, has
had the arrangements in charge, and
he reports that he never has seen Re
publican enthusiasm In Southern Ore
gon as strong as it Is today. Josephine
County, and perhaps Klamath County,
will send delegations, and there will
be a large attendance from Ashland.
