    THE SUNDAY ORTOOXIAN. PORTLAND. NOVEMBER
COMRADES OF OLD COMPANY G OF O. N. G. WILL HOLD REUNION
LD comrades of Company G. O
I I gon National Guard, one of the
best-known military organiza
tions of the city, will fraternize in
the 32d annual reunion on November
J 9. The members of the comoany will
gather at the rathskeller of the Ger
man House and the old days will be
revived "and half-forgotten tales re
called at the Informal bohemian dinner
that will be served.
Probably 70 veterans of the popular
company ' will be gathered at the re
.irion. The spirit of the old days and
of comradeship drawn tighter by the
passing years will rule. Robert E.
Liavis. who succeeded Louis Clinton
Farrar is captain of old Company G
in 1895, will act as toastmaster. There
will be no set speeches but probably
all present will take some part in the
evening's entertainment.
Company G was organized and en
tered the service of the Oregon State
Militia on November 15. 1883. It
maintained a distinct indivduality, do
ing its part in preserving the good
order of the Mate and even n those
days taking a stand for National pre
paredness. Its members were well
drilled, and the company is recalled as
having been a model volunteer mili
tary organization.
True to- its mission. Company G
stepped to the front when the Spanish
War broke out. In 1898 the organiza
tion, a' capable " fighting unit, vts
merged into the Second Oregon Regi
ment and shared in the brlliant work
of that . organization in the Philio
nlnes. Tlie original members of Company
G are scattered to many parts of the
world. Many have diesj, but there are
still a large number in and about
Portland who cherish memories ofhe
old days and who count the annual re
union as one of the brightest days on
the calendar.
Members of the compnnv were not,
presumably, madt into brutal persons
by their early military training. They
stand high in the. professional and
business ranks of the state. '
Some have kept track of their for
mer comrades and are able to recall

company. The roster of the company
