The entire strength of the company ' Is represented In the cast, which will include all the old favorites as well as some . new faces. Gus Leonard, Billy Onslow. Dorothv Raymond. Madge Car- reg, Thomas J. Bundy, Frank Confer and the popular Rosebud chorus, juiss Carreg and Mr. Bundy are both new faces in the Lyric forces, but both have enjoyed enviable reputations as dra matic and musical comedy stars for quite a time and. Judging from their reception laBt week, they are destined to be irreat favorites witn t-ortiana au diences. Stage setting effects and beautiful costuming will be a feature of the production, which' promises to be one of the season s biggest nits. Tuesday and Friday night the chorus girls contest will be an added leature. The new bill opens with a matinee to morrow afternoon and will continue for the entire week. MiRS. FISKE FILMS OX TODAY New Era in ' Motion Pictures at People's Starts. Daniel Frohman's production of "Tess of the D'Ubervilles," with Mrs. Fiske as the star, starts a week's engage ment at the PeoDle's Theater today. It will be a noteworthy occasion by rea son of the fact that many Portland cit izens have already secured box-seat reservations and there has been shown In this new movement a publio inter est which augurs well for the success of the enterprise. Not only will the occasion prove memorable by reason of the extraordinary character of the film attraction offered, but because those who attend the People's Theater will see many thoughtful improve ments, especially on the interior of the theater. Mr. Frohman's photo-dramatlo ver sion of "Tess of the D'Ubervilles" Is in six full and complete parts, and will require one hour and 30 minutes for its presentation. The management de sires to inform the public that the pic tures will be run evenly and perfectly and there will not be the slightest at tempt to rush them or hasten their termination by reason of the vast crowds which will be in attendance. The sIiowb will start daily at noon and every hour and 30 minutes thereafter. Patrons will be able to see the begin ning of the photoplay. The management has secured a year's contract from the Frohman's Famous Players Company, and each week will present to the Portland public one big film production, running it for a full period of seven days. The high cost attached to this new policy makes it necessary that there be a slight increase In the price bal cony 10 cents, lower floor 20 cents, box seats 30 cents. By this new policy the People's Thea ter occupies a place exclusively its own and does not enter Into competition tion in this city. COLUMBIA CHASGES SERVICE General Film Company Pictures to Be Shown. In keeping with its policy of giving its patrons the best of everything in the way of photo-plays, the Columbia today will inaugurate ' its exclusive service, consisting of the choice of all the films produced in both Europe and America which are distributed through the General Film Company. The com panies which will contribute their best productions to this service are the Es sanay, Vltagraph, Biograph, Edison, Lubin, Kalem, Pathe Freres and Me lles companies. Eight reels of film will be shown each week, four at each change of bill. TIs service insures a superior programme and one which will contain attractions that always will please. Two dramas and three short come dies will be tile first offerings under the new service. "Leader of Men" is a big two-reel Lubin drama featuring Arthur Johnson, In which a glimpse Is given into influences which often are brought to bear on laboring men to Induce them to strike. It is a play which catches and holds the audience. Another of the choice productions is "The Love of Penelope," offered by the Selig Company, that contains a story of love and romance. The Lubin Company contributes "The Hungry Tramp," which presents many laugh-provoking situations, and some what along the same line as "The Scarecrow," a clever comedy in which two tramps create a sensation when they take the place of an old scarecrow in the garden and frighten the wits out of the farmhands. Another film Is of two educated monkeys that do all sorts of stunts that will pfease everybody and especially the children. The mu sical features of the bill will be con tributed by Matt Dennis, baritone, and Karp's orchestra. ARCADE OFFERS FEATURE "A Girl of the Woods," New Film, on Bill Opening Today. This theater expects to break all rec ords today as far as attendance goes by reason of the fact that it will offer Miss Florence Lawrence, who . will be remembered for her splendid work in "The Closed Door." In this presenta tion, she plays the leading part in "A Girl of the Woods," which is origi nal, unique and gives her a better op portunity for brilliant acting than af forded in "The Closed Door." "Their Two Kids," is a comedy wherein a young man is compelled to furnish two kids before his father's fortune comes to him. The complications through which he goes to accomplish this, are more than amusing. "The Beggar and the Clown." is an exceedingly clever vaudeville act, Illustrated through plo tures. Oxygen is a contribution to science that must interest. The pro gramme will also contain songs by Miss Edyth Emerson, a new and brilliant singer. Tomorrow, Monday, the World's Championship Baseball pictures will be shown. The Arcade Theater, because it bid the highest price for these pic tures, has secured the exclusive right to exhibit them in the city of Portland. STAR PROGRAMME IS STRONG Sociological Study Is Supplemented by Thrilling Melodrama. The Star Theater's programme to day Is unusually strong, and cannot fail to please, consisting as it does first and foremost in Importance "The Criminal," a sociological study In criminology.' It Is a mingling of pol itics as applied to the study of crime and criminals that possesses a fund of interest to workers and students in this line of thought. Barriers of Fire is a melodramatic spectacle based on entirely different lines from the usual Civil War story. It is intensely interesting and thrill ing.
