The smuKclers had resorted to a most Ingenious method and one which could reasonably be expected to escape tha attention of the lynx-eyed Incpectors. Kleven large tackle block had been hollowed out. the recesses Oiled with flve-tael opium tins, and then covered over attain. There were 74 tins of opium in all. six of the blocks con taining eleven tins each and one had seven. Evidently It was the belief of he smtitrglers that they could take off tha tackle blocks on the pretense of removing some of the vessel's equip tnunt Inspector Joseph Head, on doty on he Siberia, made the discovery un- sststed. lie confiscated the opium and Immediately notified the customs ofllce. n.pectors K.
