Xevor have we had nrh a prat demand for pianos as during the last few dav since we announced this wonderful sale of instruments. As previously announced, we bought for spot cash a Portland dealer entire stock ot pianos. These instruments were originally ob-. tained by this dealer from the New York manufacturer, as part pay ment on a real estate deal. We got these pianos at a price which is practically " than ci-t. and we are now selling them at positively the low re. t prices and easiest terras that a brand new instrument has ever bien wld for in 1'ortland or anv other city. Just think of it: For .?111J0 we Rive you a modern, brand new, warranted piano, with fiill-tVnclh music desk, double revolving lock board, three pedals nr.d splendid tone. Without the practice pedal the piano costs only now. Other styles are $134.80 artd $126.70. We also arrange, where people are not prepared to pay all cash, so ihat they can secure one on little payments of $ or $0 a month. Snrely there never was an oortunity for buying good pianos at such lit t Te price as now. We are anxious to have every one under stand that we sell pianos, too, in adition to everything iu the musical and sheet music line. hVmembcr, there are only a limited number of these pianos o you bad better come now. lfirrr-'5ia5sl 111 FOURTH come a creditor until after these d fend..pt had severed their connection with th Institution. It I true that there were two louses whit the defendant were director, but It would be unrraeonahle to expect t nat every loan and every transaction of a bank should be a profitable one; if urh were the case. It would be a remarkable condition In bu!n life. The court seta out In detail the vari ous manner In which I-ytle and Frlede attended to their huMne and endeav ored to prevent lose to tne bank. In the long complaint filed by Re ceiver Devlin, the history was given In rl. tall of the transaction of the bank. by whi"h the bank turned over to George La. rts a certificate of de posit for $M.."'t. and cahler's check $l".i. when be had no deposit In the bank, and with which he purchased the edford & Crater Lake Railroad. It was further set out in the com plaint that Ktes was the holder of the railroad In trust for himself and H. v . Stryker, V. t'ooper Morris and W. II. Voore. who later aided tn organfxln 1 the rsrlfto A Kastern Railway Com- lanv. which became th.e successor of the Medford A Crater Iake Road when Kstes turned over the title to th latter road and tn turn received for himself. Stryker. Morris and V 11 Moore each 1 CO tald up and nonassessable shares of the new corporation. To offset tlie account In part on th books of the bank of the money turned over to Est ' with which he bought the railroad, a fictitious entry was made of bonds and warant of the Kstacada State i:.ink. although the latter Insti tution was then Insolvent, of which Ks t. was president and director and Stryker ws a director. lwnl In Bond Kccltod. At sn adjourned meetlnr of the newly formed Faciflc Kastern Railway Com pany. May 1907. the sale of $1,000,000 worth of bond of the corporation was authorised. The bonds were sect? red by a trust deed, or mortgage, of the prop erties of the railroad companv. The mortgage m-a executed on behalf of the t officer of the Pa- lflc 4 Kastern Rail way Company and the officers of tlie tn-egon Trust Sa vines Hank, which wa named us trustee. The mortgage wb recorded In Jackson County. The Oregon Trust Ac Savinx Rank received and accepted as of good vshie. on June T. 107. bond of the railroad to the value of SH0.00o, which were placed to the credit of the railroad company. OP Oregon and Washington Manufao tnrers AVant Coast Hod y to Ab sorb Otlters as Saving: Plan. Members of the Oregon and Wash' Inicton Lumber Manufacturer' Assocla lion, at th. monthly meeting yesterday went on record unanimously In favor of a proposal that on. Pacific Coast organ ization be formed to supersede the vari ous local lumbermen s bodies. There are now four associations, the Or.icon and Washington, which has headquarters In Portland; the Pacific Coast, embracing" Pufret Sound mills; the Southwestern Washington, taking; tn-m!llon Gray and Wlllapa harbors, and the British Columbia body. As result, there la a area tral of duplica tion of work for the benefit of the trad, in general. The othr bodies will be called on to consider the question passed on by the Oregon and Washington Association. and details of th. plan for merging the different bodies remain to b. worked out. It la expected that there will be a central governing body, and It has been proposed that headquarters be maintained at Centralla. Wash. It is probable that th. work of looking after purely local subjects will be delegated to a deputy organization to b, main tained In each present district. Members of the association fought shy of discussing curtailing production as a correctlv. measure for the demor alisation that prevails In the lumber market at present. Manufacturers de clare conditions scarcely could be worse, yet they hesitate to take radical steps until satUfled that the market will not improve. Some manufacturers are in favor of shutting down the mills for a term of years. The present trouble Is due simply to production In excess of the capacity of the market to absorb. This has been broutht about by opening of new mills and by re.trlrtion-of the market, both dnmentlc and foreign. Increase of the railroad freight rata to th. East, shut ting Paciflo Coast lumber out of that market, was the most serious blow the trade has suffered. Th. yellow pine and cypress of the South now h.r. the Eastern market corralled, and this sit uation will nota bo changed, apparently, for some ye'arsl Opening of tho Pan ama Canal Is looked to by Paciflo Coat lumbermen to effect some sort of eman cipation. Meana-hile the manufacturers re preparing for a market extension campaign, through which potential con sum, ra are to be educated to appreciate the advantage and various use of lKiugla. fir. Lumber manufacturers ar. somewhat beset Just now to obtain satisfactory I casualty Insurance. Th. strict employ ers liability law passed by tn. Oregon voters at the last election ha made It difficult to arrange satisfactory terms for underwriting casualty risks. Tho Pallc Ix-iermlned to Hire Tark THE DALLES, Or, May 20. (Spe cial.) The women of the Sorosls Club this week hay. rtmulatert an Initiative petition among The Palles voters ask ing for an amendment to the city char ter, setting aside 40 acre, of land owned by the city for a park. Enough names w.r. secured and it will be voted upon at the June election. Those In a posi tion to know think th. amendment will carry ov.rwhelm!ngly and the sentl meat of the voter, leans that' way.
