As an organization, and personally, we believe in the city of Portland, in its
people, in its future industrially, and as a residence and social center. We have
visited other Coast and inland towns, in fact, all of the principal ones, and we have
come back, if possible, with a still -more friendly business feeling toward Portland
and a firmly ingrown belief that it is the right place. It is the town with a big

It will be great because' the true local Western brand of pride is firmly root
ed in its center. Its geographical location and its resources will attract enterprise
and industrial growth just as surely as the same influences worked together in
building the city of New York on Manhattan Island. ' -
. Our policy has always been to offer the public only conservative properties
for investment. The future of every business must necessarily depend on its past,
and we are willing to be judged by what we have done. However, we expect in the
future to market new properties, to go forward in much the same way that we have
in the past, but where we have used an ounce of pressure we are going to add a

The offices of the Columbia Trust Company will not be onen
lor business on Sundays, and lt Is the desire of the officers of
the company that none of its salesmen or employes of any de
partment transact any kind of business whatsoever upon any
Sunday in the future. If the company or Its employes cannot
make a living- during- six days In the week, without working
on Sunday, we will quit the business. Everybody needs onl
day a rest out of the week, and Sunday is the time to take it.
