Owing to an attack of lagrippe. Miss
Lisa Wood has been confined to her
residence, and was unable to appear
as one of the babies at the County
Fair.
Mrs. John Plagemann, a recent bride,
entertained with three tables of bridge
on Thursday afternoon. She will also
entertain the same number on Tues
Bay. Mrs. G. O. Wold of Eugene, has
come to Portland for the remainder of
the Winter, and has taken apartments
at the Ionian Court.

Belle Alnsworth'. have returned from
their wedding trip through California
and are at Miss Maud Alnsworth's
residence on Portland Heights. While
In San Francisco, they visited with
Mrs. Percy Morgan, who will be re
membered as Miss Daisy Alnsworth,
who christened the battleship Oregon.
Mrs. Rodney Glisan was the hostess
at a small luncheon on Thursday.

gagement of their daughter, Olive, to

baritone. Miss Neal is a Stanford and

Herman Burpee returned recent
ly from Germany, where, with Mrs.
Burpee and tha two children, he has
resided on and off for the past five
years. Mrs. Burpee, who was Miss
Lucy Falling, arrived home about two
months ago. During their five years'
absence, one year was spent In Boston.
Sixty-five guests were entertained at
a Valentine party Monday evening at
Stelnway Hall, which was given to the
Musical Young Ladies Club by Mrs.
Blanche Irbe Koefoed. An excellent
musical programme was presented by
the members of the olub. Miss Bertha

Miss Gwendolyn Koefoed, who has a
charming lyric soprano voice, and the

Mrs. Aaron Meier's birthday was
celebrated on Saturday with Mrs. Julius
L. Meier as hostess. The luncheon,
which was followed by five tables of
bridge, was a complete surprise to the
honored guest. Table decorations were
a profusion of the early Spring flow
ers. At the luncheon were Mrs. Slg

a dinner dance tomorrow evening at the

Seven hundred dollars was added to
the treasury of the Visiting Nurses' As
sociation as the result of the annual

Mr. and Mrs. David S. Stearns gave
a reception Wednesday evening, Feb
ruary 17, at their home, BB Belmont
street, in honor of the 25th anniver
sary of their marriage. The house
was beautifully and tastefully deco
rated for the occasion, the reception
hall and living-room being In smllax
and pink carnations. The guests were
met at the door by Master Lloyd
Stearns and Miss Clarice Churchill.
Mrs. Stearns was assisted in receiving

ivy and hearts were used. The game
of hearts was played during the af
ternoon. Misses Jacque Betts and Rae
Zimmerman received the prizes. Dainty

A pleasant surprise party was given
Thursday evening In honor of Mr. and
Mrs. D. S. Slocum, of Jennings Lodge.
Mr. Slocum is a newcomer, having been

which were then used for decorative pur

The Manning home, at 830 Marshall street,
was tastefully decorated for the occasion,
the color scheme being red and the em
blem of the evening being hearts. Strings
of red hearts reached from wall to wall
of the different rooms and gave a charm
lng effect to the scene.
During the evening Ice cream squares
were served, each with a red heart in the
center. Just before supper valentines
were distributed among the ladles and du
plicates among the gentlemen, the lady
and gentleman whose valentines matched
being thus chosen as supper partners.
In the card games Mrs. W. Y. Masters
had the highest score among the lady
players, and Mr. J. B. Hosford headed
the men's list. Mr. George W. Stap'.oton
broke all previous records for low scoring.
A pleasant Valentine birthday party
was given Laura Dingle by her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Dingle, at her
home. 676 East Ankeny street, Satur
day, February IS. The prizes were won
by Miss Elizabeth Wassell and Miss
Mollis Fetting. Second prizes were
won by Miss Harriet Fetting and Al
fred Lomax. Refreshments were served.
