APri.E MAiRKKT IX LO.VIWN. C hole Stork Is Wanted From America. Only The weekly circular letter of "W- Tennls ft pfns. London, dated October 18, says: 'London arrivals thla week consisted of one Nova Scotia steamer bringing 23.000 barrels, and the usual American and White Sar boats bringing California fruit and 'ate pnrs. The condition of the 'ovs Fe.'tlan fruit, particularly the Oravenvteins, very unsatisfactory, the strck was not only fully ripe, but hsd developed a con siderable amount of scale. "Anything which ehowed up In good shape and clear met with a somewhat better mar-k-t than last week. Rlbstones and Blen heims were on the whole In fairly a; tod or dr. and sold at prices which we consider satisfactory. The market Is better on atate pears, and up to the time of writing the Improvement enntlnuea All this stock has been arriving tn flmt-clasfi ordr and has found a ready market. California fruit has been In plentiful supply, pears doing fairly well, although the demand has not be.-a quite so active. Newtown are on the down ward trend and the market Is not by any mema clar. "For your guidance we append prices for the "California Newtown. 4 tiers, "a to 8d pr box; Ktwtowni, 4 tiers, a to 7s 6d per box; Cornice pears. 7s to lis per half b-s : rmtcheas pears lOe to lO 64 per ease Eiberta peaches. 8a 8d to As 8d per half boa. "Aa we stated In our last week's circular, there la undoubtedly an Improved fee; In g among apple buyers, and we firmly believe that for any good stock which comes for ward showing oolor and quality, satisfac tory crlcea will be obtained. There is no outlet whatever for poor quality stuff. We have plenty of this stock coming in locally and shipments of anything1 of this class will only meet with disaster. ON SELLING SIDE Stock Market Affected- by Liquidation. SALES FOR LONDONERS Gains in Harrlman Earnings Sup plemented by Reports to Inter state Commerce Commission. Bonds Are Irregular. NEW YORK. Oct. 81. The day'a stock market was affected plainly enough by a movement on the part of speculative holder to get- out of their holdings on the eve of the Presidential election. It was the suppo sition of observer) in the neighborhood of the stock exchange that this movement camo rrom the lesser following of the powerful speculative leaders. They are credited with holdinr most of the floating market supply of stocks and with being; abundantly sup plied with cheap credit to hold them. Their ability to put prlcea to a higher level, after election. Is not doubted. The strength to which a aran era! demand from outeide sources for stocks will be attracted is what Is doubted. It was thla doubt that prompted the cleaning up of speculative accounts, which was in progress today In continuation of a similar movement yesterday. The cir culation of report of the closing- out of some very heavy account in L'nited States Steel yesterday was an Influence in Increasing thia tendency. Sales for London account were an effective factor In the market. News waa not much attended to, although there was considerable discussion of John D. Rockefeller's announcement of -hi political attitude and of the reception accorded It. The extraordinary gains in net earnings for September, reported yesterday by the Union Pacific and the Southern Pacific, were supplemented by the reports to the Interstate Commerce Commission of other tranaoontl cental railroad for that period, showing In creases In gross earnings and heavy cuts in operating cost. It waa. considered that the strength of the returns would operate a gat not the attempt credited to the railroad to bring about- a general advance In freight rates after election. The bank statement presented no great sur prises. , Bonds were Irregular. Total sales, par value, $1,960,000. United States bonds are unchanged on call for the week. CLOSING STOCK QUOTATIONS.
