die." which comes to the Baker next
Sunday. The Eastern critics pro
nounced this attraction oneTjf the sea
son's best the very essence of musical
comedy, extravag-anie, vaudeville, etc..
and stated it was fully equal to any
of the past Broadway successes, "The
Wizard of Ox," "'Babes in Toyland."
and later "The Top o" the World.
Practically the same big- cast that was
seen last season, including the Elmore
sisters and Charles A- Sellon, and a big
bes,uty chorus. The Droductlon is new
ana very elaborate. The bis; song hits,
which are so whistly and airy, are
"Lota from South Dakota," "Rosy
Drums," "Modesty Restrains Me
From Adding; More," "The Date Tree,"
"The Mermaids," '1 Wish I Were a
Bailor," "Won't Tou Take a Ride With
Me," and some 20 others.

family. Negotiations began last April
for both this play and Belasoo's "Rose

will follow "A Gilded Fool" at the Bun
galow. It Is the greatest of all West
ern successes and Blanche Bates played
It In New York to a record business
for months and months. The Baker
stock production will be a revelation
and a surprise, exceeding; all previous
triumphs of Portland's popular stock
company. The sale -of seats for "The
Girl of the Golden West" will open to

6TROXG BILL FOR ORPHTXM
Many Good Features on This Week's
Programme.
The bill at the Orpheum the past week
was an excellent one and the house was
packed nightly, the screams of laughter
and outbursts of enthusiasm from the au
diences were the best encouragement In
the world to the performers behind the
footlights. The coming week's bill Is va
ried and unique, and will doubtless satisfy
the most fastidious critic
The headllner is Jesse I Lasky's "Mili
tary Octet" and "The Girl With the
Baton." a musical production, and lrf one
of the costliest and most pretentious
novelties In vaudeville. Beside a mechani
cal staff of five. It requires the services
of 11 trained musicians, and their tuneful
numbers are beautifully Introduced In ap
propriate settings and atmospheric scenes.
In this production, as the title Implies,
the scenes show army life, and three pic
turesque .locales have been selected, one
In Russia, one in India and one at home,
until the offering really takes on the Im
portance of a scenic spectacle.
"The Four Rlanos" Is a name familiar
to all Orpheum patrons as this agile quar
tet are the most original, screamingly
funny acrobatic sketch that has ever been
seen in vaudeville. The name. It will be
remembered. Is "In Africa" and Its action
takes place in the interior of a tropical
hotel In that locale. Its fun Is limitless.
Two of the four Impersonate apes: the
third Is professor interested In the Dar
winian theory, and the fourth la an ec
centric female sere van t-
Julia Klngsley and her company offer
in the sparkling comedy "Supper for
Two." This little sketch deals with a so
ciety lady and a young man who Is very
much Infatuated with her but la very
timid.
The Jupiter Bros., cowboy Illusionists,
do things that would mystify the Fays.
They mystify and surprise you, and the
performance is given a unique touch by
the appearance of the brothers in the
dress of the plains for they are Oklahoma
cowboys.
Mr. and Mrs. George A. Beane are pre
senting "A Woman's Way." Mr. Beane
will be remembered by many for his play
ing In Hoyt's comedies a dozen years ago,
and the reputation he then made.
Miss Mabel Sinclair Is considered Eng
land's foremost lady ventriloquist and
she comes to the Orpheum circuit from
the London Pavilion where she was ex
ceedingly popular.
The Three Dancing Mitchells, are colored
entertainers, who have long been Identi
fied with Black Pattl, Ernest Hogan and
the Williams and Walker shows, and for
' characteristic dancing of their race they
' have few equals.
TROCPE OF TRAINED MONKEYS

Louise and her troupe of high school
monkeys will be the headline attraction.
This is another one of those extremely
funny comedy acts that is always en
Joyed by the old and the young. There
will be special matinees given during the
week for the little ones. For a special
added attraction the management takes
much pleasure in presenting "Ye Olde
Home Choir." a troupe of sweet singers,
who are well known in all the best East
ern cities as one of the strongest singing
acts In vaudeville.
The great Lester Is a ventriloquist who
can carry on a conversation with his
dummies, sing, drink wine and smoke
cigarettes all at the same time. His
act is brimming over with comedy and Is
a laugh from start to finish. Clemenso
brothers are musical acrobats, clowns
who can produce music from anything
they lay their hands on. from an old
gum boot to a tomato can. They finish
their act with a side-splitting comedy
acrobatic act. Miss Clara Walters, pre
miere pianist danseuse, presents a rare
novelty act, the only lady in the land
that can dance well, sing well and play
the piano all at the same time. Elliott
Beamer will sing a new picture baritone
solo and the blograph will present one
of the very latest reels of animated pic
tures direct . from the factory to Pan
tages Theater.
Today will be your last chance to see
the present bill, which Is headed by the
four musical Hodges, presenting a beau
tiful spectacular musical novelty.

Mile. Theo and her dandles have a sing
ing and dancing specialty which is of high
grade and sure to be found entertaining.
In the way of Instrumental musical acts
there are few equals to that of the Tog
arally Brothers, who come to the Grand
this week for the first time. Their success
In the East indicates that they will be a
strong card on the new bill.
Sakata Is a Japanese foot Juggler. This
Is one kind of acrobatics In which the
Orientals excel. Sakata Is from the Royal
Theater of Toklo. Fred. G. Bauer will
render a new Illustrated ballad and there
