II HIE SUNDAY OREGONIAX, PORTLAND, SEPTEMBER 20, 190S. Young East Side Girls Stage "Nino's Revenge Play in Three Acts Is Produced by Talented Members of the Lilliputian Stock Company. - i .5 i V ,7 ft". t -it ..-4 . " ' it 'i.t5.i' - n rVtMiniia'If'unTMtlri'ffir rMriiflf ft.- nft-'i Wl.Hiffr intftnr.'WMftlTf.rfferiijNffiWfrnffiW MEMBERS OF THE I.IIUPCTIAX STOCK COMPAXr, BECEJfTLT ORGANIZED OX THE EAST SIDE, i PEVT people are aware of the fact that the East Bide boasts a full fledged theatrical company, railed the "Lilliputian Stork Company." the mem bers of which are all girls from 9 to IE years of age. Last Friday and Saturday evenings ' the members of the troup grave a most excellent performance of "Nino's Re venre." a drama In three acts by Charles Duncan, at 330 Benton street, the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. I Philp. They all did pleasing- work, quite surprising . their friends. It Is the Intention of j the girls to give a play later on for ' charity. The youngsters have worked hard ; through many days of their vacation ; and were rewarded by two "packed I houses," unstinted praise of their . friends, and flowers in profusion. It is interesting to know that the whole affair was managed by six young girls, who decorated the room with bunting and evergreens, arranging the stage also. The drop curtain was painted by the oldest girl, not yet IS years of age, the scene being the Bay of Naples. Instead of carpet, pretty green boughs were laid npon the floor of the stage. One sweet little miss aald confidentially, "they did not want any boys in their troupe as they always forgot so many things." The boys, however, were allowed to sell tickets and refreshments. The cast of characters In "Nino's Re venge" is ae follows: Nino Bravetta, Rose M. Philp; Lucia, his sister, Helen Southard; Francesco Galantl, Josephine Burns Hoben; Giovanni, his page, Dorothy Connolly. Act 1. A scene in a forest. Act 2. Park In Naples. Act S. Chapel In San Jannaro Convent. Nlta Philp, designer of costumes. Rose Philp. directress. Miss Rose Philp as Nino Bravette made a most forbldlng brigand and did this most trying part well and looked every inch a "bad man." Dainty little Virginia Brown, as Lucia, his sister, played her part well, indeed. Helen Southard, who took the part of La Santa, the Sister of Charity of San Jannaro Convent, had a fine part to play and played it well. The part of Francesco Galantl, the lover of Lucia,' was taken by Josephine Burns Hoben. who did a Sne piece of acting. In the second act she sang "Love Me and the World is Mine." And pretty little Dorthy Connolly also acted well and made a sprightly little page to Francesco Galantl. The "Flower Song," sung In the second act, was composed by Rose Philp. At the close of the third act a short programme of "specialties" was given as follows: Song, selected, Vivian Waller and Fiesta Newton; reading, "The Watermelon," Virginia Brown; reading, "Little Boy in Dime Museum," Josephine Burns Hoben: reading, "Man With a Cold in His Head," Rose Philp; aong, "Schooldays," little Mildred Southard.
