4 THE SUNDAY OREGOXIAX. PORTLAXD. JULY 5. 1908. o i. v i 5f;S?:sSp::5pi;;;?p HAC2r RZ&W ? Bryan la the most completely typical plain American citizen In the public eye today. He represents with perfect fidelity the spirit of the great middle section of the country, where he was born and brought up. Only two generations ago, the owner of a piece of virgin soil, two strong arms and a decent character had all the chance that anybody could have. On this traditional basts his life la built. He It & practical farmer, a successful lawyer, an influential editor, and one of the most forceful orators In America. During the Spanish-American War he rralsed and commanded the Third Nebraska Infantry. Here again he was the typical American, for his military service was only an Incident. He did his duty and did It well, then came back to the life and work of a plain civilian. This is an exceptional chance for his fellow Americans to see In many phases and many lights the beet-known private citizen of our Nation one who, while holding no conspicuous public office what ever to lend artificial prestige to his actual personal worth, is known all around the world. What about his future? ! That remains for America to say. The photographs reproduced In this re markable grouping Include the following cf specially marked interest: Key to Bryan Combination Photo.
