DEATH THREAT FOR MAYOR
Greater Pittsburg's Executive Is
Guarded Against Violence.
PITTSBURG, Dec. 14. Mayor George
"VV. Guthrie, of Greater Pittsburg, is in
receipt of a letter threatening him with
death unless his policy is reversed imme
diately. Due precaution against violence
has been taken.
Since the constitutionality of the annex
ation of Allegheny City to Pittsburg was
affirmed by the Supremo Court of the
United States, Mayor Guthrie has ac
complished several things which are, it
is stated, unfavorable to persons in Allegheny.
Booming Price of Double-Eagles.
NEW YORK, Dec 14. The fact that the
new $30 gold pieces are very scarce and
that collectors are already paying a large
premium for them has started a rumor
among the young men of Wall street that
there is more than $20 worth of gold in
the coins'. For that reason there Is a
scramble to obtain the new coins. Only
a small number were sent to the sub
treasury In New York, and they were
quickly bought up by collectors. As high
as $28 is being offered for the coins. When
the next issue is made there will be sev
eral changes in the coins, and this has
made the demand from collectors and
dealers. However, tne Wall-street young
men still believe that there is more gold
in the new coins than there should be.
The J. K. Gill Company will be open
evenings until Christmas day. and -welcomes
the Holiday shopper with a great
display of Holiday gifts. Come, and
let us offer a suggestion.
