Bandmas ter DeCaprio makes up his Sunday pro grammes largely of classical numbers, aiming thereby to develop a popular taste for high-class compositions. Saint-Saens' "Danse Macabre" ("Dance of the Skeletons"), which is considered a masterpiece of vivid descriptive writing, will close the first half of the programme. The music conveys the antics of a com pany of skeletons, which rise from their graves in a country churchyard on a moonlight night and hold . high carnival there. Their dance gets wilder and wilder until the crowing of a distant cock warns them that the dawn is at hand, and that ghosts must lie low. All hurry back to their coffins, but one poor wretch loses his bearings and utters low moans of distress, until at last he finds his grew some bed, and the last sound heard is the rattle of his bones as he drops into his waiting coffin.
