LONG BEACH, July 20. (Special.)
Drills by the crew at the United
States Life Saving station, near
Ocean Park are always attended by a
large number of beach visitors. Teams
take parties to Fort Canby and the
North Head lighthouse. Other amuse
ments are skating, dancing and social
events. The swimming pool Is well pa
tronized, and It is no unsual sight to see
little girls and boys who can swim like
ducks. The Summer crowd Is constantly
increasing. The cottages are nearly all
filled, and the boarding houses and hotels
have no cause to complain of lack of pa

GEARHART PARK. July 20. (Spe

much in the amusement line. Profes
sor James Nicol, of the Portland Riding

beginning August 1.
The Gearhart Hotel is situated on the
ocean front on the edge . of a most
charming grove of immense spruce,
cedar and hemlock trees that can be
seen, in any part of the globe. Two
beautiful mountain streams wind
through the groves and boating is a
favorite pastime with men, women and

trips to adjoining points comprise other
interesting incidents of Seaside life.

railroad station to the hotel, whlth
is brilliantly illuminated at night
with a myriad of electric lights.
The sewerage system Is perfect. Im
